The viral candy comes in different shapes and sizes. It is a honeycomb toffee and comes with a light and sponge-like texture.
To create a beautiful Dalgona coffee you will need just two ingredients- sugar and baking soda. Yes, it’s actually that simple and easy to make!
Yong-hui had made the Dalgona candies on the show. He made 700 candies and used 15 kg of sugar for it.
Ingredients and some basic utensils you will need:
- Baking soda
- Sugar
- Single chopstick
- Non-stick pan
- Parchment paper or silicone mat or a tray
- Container with a flat base
- Cookie-cutter
Steps
- First, add 1.5 tablespoons of sugar into your pan.
- Hold it over low heat and keep stirring it with chopsticks when the sugar starts to melt.
- At the time of stirring, do keep in mind that the sugar doesn’t burn. If it starts to smoke, immediately remove it from the heat for some time.
- After the sugar has completely melted and has no lumps left, take it off from the heat.
- You can add a pinch of baking soda into the sugar.
- Keep stirring it vigorously until baking soda has entirely dissolved and the mixture has turned into a light caramel colour.
- Next, pour the entire mixture onto a parchment paper.
- Before you start to flatten it with a burger press, cool for a few seconds first.
- You can then use your favourite cookie cutter to stamp it, without actually pressing it in all the way.
Here’s another super easy recipe that you can try out:
Ingredients:
- Sugar 3 tbsp – Sugar
Pinch of baking soda
Steps
- Take a pan and then caramelise the sugar. You need to add a pinch of baking soda to give it a honeycomb texture and mix well.
- Then pour the caramelised sugar on a baking sheet.
- Use a cookie cutter to imprint designs of your choice just before the caramelised sugar is about to set.
- Once the candy is set, you can remove the designed piece with just a pin.
Tips To Remember While Using Honeycomb Candy Recipe

- If you don’t have parchment paper, you can create a non-stick surface by dusting the tray with either- sugar, baking soda, flour or some cooking oil. You can also apply the same technique when you are using the cookie cutter and the burger press. In this way, the candy will not stick to the utensil.
- But do keep in mind that while the recipe may look easy, you may not succeed in your first attempt. Don’t feel disheartened because it takes some time to figure out how to control the heat to get the best results.
- While most people use the burger press to flatten and get a circular shape, some have also tried using the base of the mixing bowl to flatten it.
- In order to remove the sugar residue from your utensils, you may need to run them under hot water. This will dissolve the sugar quickly.
- Also, don’t use any wet utensils, always remember to dry them before cooking
- If you end up with too much Dalgona, you can actually try crushing them to bits. You can use it to top your ice cream for that extra crunch and added flavour.
ICYMI, Here Are Some Quirky Dalgona Game Rules
A Dalgona candy is a popular sweet that many Koreans would remember from their childhood days.
In Korean culture, kids challenge each other in this game. They have to cut the shape out of the candy without actually breaking the shell using just a needle. Now that sounds tough, but when one is successful in doing so, the street vendor gives the second candy as a reward.
This game was recreated in Squid Game and the game here takes a sinister turn with the implementation of a 10-minute time limit and the death penalty for those contestants who fail in their task.
We hope these recipes can help you to recreate your own Dalgona candy at home and you can hop on to the trend!
