Growing up in the urban lifestyle of Singapore, our kids are often deprived of the simple pleasures of interacting with nature. We barely manage to plan activities for our kids beyond the usual playgrounds and away from the hustle-bustle of the town.

But if you want to make your child’s June holidays special, we have a plan for you. How about heading down to Choa Chu Kang farm area for a countryside adventure?

You get to bask in the lap of nature, interact with animals, and buy fresh produce at these farms.

Bollywood Veggies is perfect for a lazy weekend retreat away from maddening city life. The splendid farm spans 10 acres and it’s easy to lose yourself here as you take in the sights.

After the 30-minute farm tour, where you can get your hands dirty, sit down to enjoy some farm-to-table comfort food.

The farm also houses Poison Ivy Bistro, a restaurant that is dedicated to serving lip-smacking dishes with organic homegrown ingredients.

Started in 2000, it has now become one of the most beloved farms on the island. Bollywood Veggies has over the years, expanded to include a culinary school and a museum.

Address: 100 Neo Tiew Road, S(719026)

Update: Until dine-in resumes in Singapore, this place will be shut.

2. Fire Flies Health Farm

Fire Flies Health Farm emphasises on 100% organic farming.  They insist on not using animal waste to fertilise their crops. But, they use special compost made of rock dust and seaweed to enhance the soil’s mineral content. Do look out for organic soy milk and brown rice cheese rings while you’re at the farm.

They also offer services for setting up mini organic gardens indoors so do enquire about this if you want to enjoy organic goodness at your convenience!

Jurong Frog Farm is home to about 10,000 frogs, the majority of which are American Bullfrogs. However, if you are not fond of frogs or are scared of them, then we will advise you to give it a skip.

But, for those of you who are interested, the staff members will be more than happy to show you around the farm. Activities start from just $2.

You know you can even eat those croaking critters! Jurong Frog Farm is also known for a Chinese dessert called hashima. It is made from the dried fatty tissue found near the fallopian tubes of female frogs. Now you understand why we told you it’s not for faint-hearted?

On account of the pandemic, Jurong Farm will hold virtual farm tours for kids during their June holidays. Don’t miss out on it!

It is the only goat farm in Singapore. There are about 800 goats of mixed breeds, and all of them get to live a royal life. That’s because every goat here chews on hay shipped straight from the US, as well as special feed flown in from Australia.

Hence Hay Dairies’ goat milk tastes so much better. It has lower fat content, more nutrition and is perfect for those suffering from lactose intolerance.

Plan a trip early in the morning to catch the goats being milked (from 9 to 11 am).

Address: 3 Lim Chu Kang Lane 4, Singapore 718859

5. Qian Hu Fish Farm Singapore

This is one of the largest ornamental fish farms in Singapore so there’s lots of marine life to observe.

Watching colourful fish, rays and corals are probably sufficient entertainment for hours. But, the farm also offers a range of affordable activities for groups of 20 or more.
