Tracy Lee Wants To Be More Than Just A Stay-At-Home Mum To Her 3-Year-Old Son

Tracy Lee Wants To Be More Than Just A Stay-At-Home Mum To Her 3-Year-Old Son

"My work-life balance is basically me arranging my life around Ben," says Tracy Lee.

You remember Tracy Lee for her several television appearances but it’s been a while since the actor came has been in front of a camera. A mum to her three-year-old son, Ben Junior, Lee has been on a sabbatical from acting and trying her hand at different ventures that keep her motivated and organised.

With her latest venture, Tracy Lee wants to prove to herself and her son that she is a super mum.

For those searching for “Tracy lee latest news,” this update should come as a pleasant surprise. Lee–who is the daughter-in-law of billionaire ‘Popiah King’ Sam Go–recently assumed her new role as the boss of a maid agency in Singapore.

The bubbly mum was already a business consultant for an online marketplace and had a Chinese New Year cookie business. But with this new venture the former MediaCorp actress is proving that keeping herself busy isn’t all about money and we truly admire her for it.

Tracy Lee’s Maid Agency Is Now Open For Business

Lee recently shared that she opened the employment agency with her partner Magdalene in July 2021. They originally planned to open it on June 19 this year, coinciding with Tracy Lee’s birthday. But the partners had to shelve the idea due to the coronavirus regulations back then.

Instead, they simply decided to announce the venture in July with an announcement on their social media page.

Magdalene had been running her own agency for a while. She wanted Tracy to be her spokesperson for the new branch but the latter suggested becoming partners instead because she loved the values of the company.

She clarifies right at the start that her maid agency is not a charity. They won’t do things that will lead to a loss of money. But they do believe in being ethical while running their business.

Sharing one particular incident, Lee said that transfer maids are in very high demand on the island. But there was one case where they paid for the helper’s air ticket back home because they felt that she wasn’t suited to work here.

The decision, however, was not taken in a haste.

They spoke to the helper and felt that she had attitude problems and refused to change. “We believe in going that extra mile, instead of blindly running after profits,” said Tracy.

She further clarifies that they listen to both sides of the parties. Sometimes the employer and the helper are not on the same page. It doesn’t mean that either of them is wrong. It’s only those who refuse to do even the basic chores or have major attitude problems that are sent home.

Tracy Lee’s Day-To-Day Involvement With Her Agency

Since Tracy is new in this field, she is mostly taking care of her friends who are looking for helpers. The other clients are handled by her partner and other staff members because they are more experienced than her.

The mum is also looking after the marketing of her company.

She shared that Elvin had approached her to say that he and his family needed a helper. She was confident of the helper her agency arranged for his family because she had prior experience of working at a four-storey landed property.

Speaking of which, the Singaporean actor and his family live in a three-storey of his semi-D house.

Business So Far

The former actress shared that maids are always in demand. But the wait times are now longer due to the restrictions amidst the pandemic.

“There are 11 clients who have paid their deposits and are waiting for their helpers to come. The wait time can be anywhere between 4 to 6 weeks,” says Tracy.

The agency follows a process where they first understand the requirements of the employer and then arrange the interview rounds of the maids. It’s followed up by a call between the potential employer and the helper to see if things are good to go. It is only after both the parties agree that the agency starts the entire process.

Tracy understood the importance of hiring the “right maid” after becoming a mum

Before having her son, Tracy was never that particular about her helpers. Her requirements largely were that they should do the chores, not bring strangers home and don’t steal.

It is only after she became a mum–and having lost her husband Ben Goi, to a stroke in 2019–that she realised how important it is to have a good helper who loved kids.

The best part of Tracy’s new role is that she can spend most of her time working from home. She also schedules her meetings so that she is only busy when her son is at the kindergarten or taking a nap.

Tracy lee’s priority is to spend maximum time with her son and she wishes to be his best friend when he grows up.

In an attempt to be with Ben Junior, she has also given up on many things because that would require her to spend more time outside.

“My work-life balance is basically me arranging my life around Ben,” chuckled the mum.

Lee says she wanted to learn Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). She even spoke to some of her friends, including Ponsak, who said that she would have to attend a lot of time attending practical classes. She gave up the idea because you require in-person attendance to graduate.

The mum also insists that she is not the parent who would send her child to all sorts of tuition classes. She isn’t very particular about the primary school he goes to either.

Here’s wishing Tracy lee the very best!
