Teachers’ Day in Singapore falls on the first Friday of September, which makes it Friday 4 September in 2026 and Friday 3 September in 2027, and because the day itself is a school holiday on the MOE school terms and holidays calendar, the concerts, the cards and the shy handing-over of gifts all happen the day before, at the class celebration on the Thursday.
Ask any teacher what they keep from Teachers’ Day and they’ll tell you about the cards, especially the ones in a child’s own words and handwriting. The message that lands is specific: one thing the teacher did, in the child’s own words, plus a line from you.
“Thank you for being patient when I couldn’t do fractions” beats “Best teacher ever” every time. MOE teachers can’t accept expensive gifts, so the card is the gift.

How to help your child write one
Ask two questions and write down the answers word for word: “What is one thing your teacher helped you with this year?” and “What does your teacher do that makes you laugh, or feel better?” Those answers are the card. Add a greeting and a sign-off and let your child copy it out, spelling mistakes included. Then add two lines of your own at the bottom, because a parent’s thanks carries a different weight, and teachers read it. Notice, too, how often children thank the teacher who held a line and stayed kind about it: the same warm-but-firm positive parenting balance that works at the dinner table.

A word on gifts
