'Taylor Swift Effect' Fades as Singapore Tourist Arrivals Hit Low in April

'Taylor Swift Effect' Fades as Singapore Tourist Arrivals Hit Low in April

From amazing concerts to cultural festivals and everything in between, there's always something new and exciting to explore in the Lion City.

If you’ve been keeping an eye on Singapore’s tourism scene, you might have noticed a slight dip in visitor arrivals last month. After a Taylor Swift-led high in March, Singapore tourist arrivals slipped to 1.36 million in April, marking the lowest number of arrivals so far this year.

According to the latest figures from the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), the Republic welcomed 1.36 million tourists in April.

This comes after a bustling March, which saw 1.48 million visitors, thanks in part to Taylor Swift’s six-show extravaganza at the National Stadium and Shinee’s one-night performance at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Hotels saw a rise in average room rates, while overall room revenue, revenue per available room, and average occupancy rates also climbed.

Interestingly, Indonesia overtook China to become the top source of arrivals in April, with 243,893 visitors.

China came in second with 220,444 tourists, followed by India with 106,703 visitors. Malaysia and Australia rounded out the top five, with 106,191 and 96,892 tourists, respectively.

Singapore Tourist Arrivals: The Year So Far

Despite the April dip, Singapore has reported an impressive 5.71 million international visitor arrivals in the year to date. That’s about 90 per cent of the figures for the same period in 2019, before the pandemic hit.

Looking Ahead at Singapore Tourist Arrivals

At STB’s recent Tourism Industry Conference, chief executive Melissa Ow shared some exciting projections for the year ahead. The agency expects Singapore tourist arrivals to reach between 15 million and 16.5 million in 2024, with tourism receipts ranging from $27.5 billion to $29 billion.

If the upper bound of the forecast is achieved, it would set a new record for Singapore’s tourism industry.

So, what does this mean for you and your family?

Well, as Singapore keeps welcoming visitors from all over the world, you can look forward to even more thrilling events, attractions, and experiences popping up all over the island. From amazing concerts to cultural festivals and everything in between, there’s always something new and exciting to explore in the Lion City.

Why not start planning your next family adventure today? Whether you’re a local looking for a fun-filled staycation or a visitor ready to discover Singapore’s many wonders, there’s no better time to make unforgettable memories with your loved ones.
