Travelling During Pregnancy: Singapore Airlines Pregnancy Policy

Planning a trip while pregnant? Check out Singapore Airlines' pregnancy policy.

When you’re expecting a child and planning to travel, there are several factors to consider, including your airline’s policies regarding pregnancy. In this article, we’ll explore Singapore Airlines‘ pregnancy policy to ensure you have a safe and comfortable journey.

Informing Your Gynaecologist

Before booking your flight, it’s crucial to inform your gynaecologist of your travel plans. Seeking medical guidance is essential to ensure a smooth and worry-free journey. Your gynaecologist can provide you with valuable advice and assess whether it’s safe for you to fly.

Flying during the 28th Week and Earlier

If you plan to fly during the earlier stages of your pregnancy, specifically before the 28th week, there are certain requirements you should be aware of:

No Medical Certificate Required

You won’t need a medical certificate for your flight. However, keep in mind that if your return flight is scheduled beyond the 28th week of your pregnancy, you’ll need to present a medical certificate.

No Emergency Exit Row Seating

Due to flight safety requirements, seats in the emergency exit row are not available for pregnant passengers during this period.

Flying Between 29 to 36 Weeks (Uncomplicated Single Pregnancy) or 29 to 32 Weeks (Uncomplicated Multiple Pregnancy)

For those in the middle stages of pregnancy, Singapore Airlines has specific requirements:

Medical Certificate Needed

You must provide a medical certificate that includes information about your fitness to travel, the number of weeks of your pregnancy, and your estimated date of delivery. This certificate should be dated within ten days of your first flight after reaching 28 weeks of pregnancy.

Check-In Requirement

Upon request, you’ll need to present this medical certificate at check-in.

Emergency Exit Row Seating

Similar to earlier stages, seats in the emergency exit row are not available during this period for pregnant passengers.

Flying Beyond 36 Weeks (Uncomplicated Single Pregnancy) or Beyond 32 Weeks (Uncomplicated Multiple Pregnancy)

As you approach the later stages of pregnancy, Singapore Airlines has specific restrictions in place:

Air Travel Not Allowed

Beyond 36 weeks for uncomplicated single pregnancies and beyond 32 weeks for uncomplicated multiple pregnancies, air travel is not permitted for safety reasons.

In conclusion, Singapore Airlines has a comprehensive pregnancy policy in place to ensure the safety and comfort of pregnant passengers. It’s essential to stay informed about these guidelines and plan your journey accordingly to make your trip as smooth as possible. Remember to consult with your gynaecologist before making any travel arrangements during pregnancy to ensure both you and your baby’s well-being.
