While the rest of Singapore ushered in the New Year, Mr Tham Kuan How and Ms Lian Wen Fang, both 29, welcomed their first child – Chloe Tham Xin Yi – with the help of their gynaecologist, Dr Claudine Tan who practices at Thomson’s Women’s Clinic at Serangoon Central. It has been reported that Chloe arrived 2 days earlier than her expected date.

Chloe is also the first Jubilee Baby to be born, as Singapore celebrates its 50th year of independence this year. Her proud parents were presented with the SG50 Baby Jubilee Gift by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Ms Grace Fu.

“We just want her to be happy, grow up healthy and have the freedom to choose what to do in future,” said Mr Tham, who works in customer service in the retail sector.

The SG50 Baby Jubilee Gift Pack includes a special medallion, a multi-functional shawl, a baby sling, a set of baby clothes, a diaper bag, a scrapbook, a family photo frame and a set of baby books.

Ms Fu told The Straits Times that the arrival of the Jubilee baby “signifies new life and a new beginning that is of particular significant as we celebrate 50 years of nationhood”.

“We hope that the baby will grow up well, will have a healthy life, will have a meaningful life, and I think that’s really the best gift that the baby can bring to Singapore…We hope that Singapore will be a great place for children to grow up,” said Ms Fu.

theAsianparent would like to congratulate the proud new parents of Singapore’s first Jubilee Baby 2015!
