Natural ways to boost your sex drive

4 Jan, 2013

Having trouble getting into the mood for lovemaking? Your lifestyle could be the problem. Here are some natural ways to boost that lagging libido.

Many factors...

Many factors...

There are many factors why women suffer from a low sex drive and it is not always a hormonal issue. Our lifestyle, emotional, physical and psychological state can all affect our mood for love-making. So before you do the extreme and take the equivalent to that little blue pill, we suggest some things you can try to boost a lagging libido.
Get sweaty

Get sweaty

A sedentary lifestyle can make you feel listless and fatigued, and can be a mood killer for sex. On the other hand, getting some exercise and moving your body can help you loosen up, relieve tension and stress (another mood killer) and boost blood flow. Exercise has also been known to make you feel happier (due to the release of the happy drug, dopamine) and thus it would help set the tone for sexy time with the hubby.
Work that mouth

Work that mouth

There are many foods out there that can help increase your desire for sex that don't include shucking an oyster. Why not stock up on bananas or stir a teaspoon of honey into your tea in the morning to give your lagging libido an energy boost and work up an appetite for love making.

Bananas are effective as they contain B vitamins, which are key for converting carbohydrates into energy and are also believed to help manufacture sex hormones such as testosterone. Honey is also rich in B vitamins, additionally it contains boron, which helps the body metabolize estrogen. And we all know how estrogen is an important part of boosting blood flow and triggering arousal.
Go on a tech fast

Go on a tech fast

The advancement of technology has brought about the smart phone and tablet, but while these gadgets might help our lives, our constant reliance on them (and sometimes even over-reliance) could in fact be putting a dampener on things between the sheets.

So make it a point to go on a tech fast maybe once a week where both you and your partner switch off your mobiles for the duration of your date and time between the covers and resist the temptation to check your emails.
You snooze...you win!

You snooze...you win!

So it's tough to find enough hours in the day to finish everything we set out to do, and the first thing that gets sacrificed, is sleep. This can be detrimental not only to your physical, emotional and psychological health, it can put a firm stop to all active bedroom activity.

So we suggest that you find the time to sleep in for a few minutes or doze in the bus as it can put the buzz back in your lovemaking.
A medical issue

A medical issue

Sometimes it is the medicine you take that could be the problem. Prescription medication such as drugs for anti anxiety, hypertension and anti-depressants has been shown to contribute to a low libido. Even the harmless antihistamines that you regularly pop for your allergies could be the overriding problem. These drugs tend to dry out the vagina, making sex uncomfortable and could inevitably be putting you off it.

So next time you're at the pharmacy or doctor, speak to them about alternative medication hat have lesser or no sexual side effects.
