A 91-Year-Old Grandma Uses A Genius Trick To Catch Her Thieving Maid

A 91-Year-Old Grandma Uses A Genius Trick To Catch Her Thieving Maid

To catch her maid red-handed, the 91-year-old tried an interesting trick with her S$10 bills.

The elderly in Singapore are perhaps one of the most vulnerable groups and often fall prey to scams. However, you’d be wrong to stereotype every elderly individual.

Because there are some who are more sharp and quick-thinking than any average youngster.

As was proved by the 91-year-old, Wang Caijuan, who can give the police and crime investigators a run for their money.

Nonagenarian Wang Caijuan realised she needed help to get by at home and so decided to hire a maid.

But the elderly soon found her cash frequently missing from her wallet. She first became suspicious when each time she asked her maid to buy something, the money she would receive would be less than expected.

Wang also found that her wallet would go empty without any reason. Unable to derive any conclusion, she had a word with her son and decided to try a trick to catch the culprit.

The 91-year-old marked numbers on four of her S$10 bills. Right before she went out, Wang kept her bag in the designated place.

However, after she returned, Wang saw that her bag was placed in a different place. When she confronted her maid to return all her cash, she found the marked note along with her possession.

So yes, the maid was caught stealing!

According to Ms Wang, the maid feigned innocence and added that she accidentally picked up the notes from the floor.

91YO Gave The Maid An Ultimatum

The maid eventually confessed to stealing money several times and was given an ultimatum. Ms Wang’s family decided to deport her.

Following the incident, their maid reportedly bought a plane ticket to return home all by herself.

Post the incident, Ms Wang decided to share the incident to warn other employees of such incidents.

Indonesian maid guilty of stealing S$30,000 items from Liew Mun’s family

In 2019, a 45-year-old Indonesian maid was found guilty of stealing more than S$30,000 worth of items from the family of Changi Airport Group chairman Liew Mun Leong.

She was found guilty of stealing two bags of around S$200 each, Mr Liew’s watches, over 100 pieces of clothing that belonged to Liew’s son, jewellery and sunglasses.

All the stolen items were recovered. Last year, Singapore High Court, however, acquitted the maid stating that the Liew family had an “improper motive” for accusing the helper of stealing.

Maid uses family’s details to borrow money

A Singaporean family’s maid allegedly borrowed money from licensed and unlicensed moneylenders using their details.

The money-lenders started demanding money from them. On confronting their maid, she claimed that she had already returned the money.

However, when the employers approached the moneylender, they vehemently disagreed.

Indonesian maid jailed for mixing menstrual blood and also stealing

The maid working for a family in Punggol allegedly contaminated drinking water and rice with her saliva, urine, and menstrual blood. In addition to this, over $13,000 was stolen from the family, as per reports.

The maid believed that by drinking the contaminated water, her family would agree to do whatever she did and would not scold her either.

While these cases are shocking, it is advisable to be vigilant and at the same time treat every staff member with respect and dignity. You never know what somebody is going through.
