On March 28, a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar and sent tremors as far as Bangkok, Thailand. While exercising on the 52nd floor of the Park Origin Thonglor condominium complex, Korean dad, Kwon felt the violent shaking. Meanwhile, his wife, 35-year-old Sukanya Yatuam, and their one-year-old daughter stayed in their apartment on the 30th floor of an adjacent tower, which was connected by a skybridge.

As the earthquake rattled the city, cracks spread, and part of the skybridge collapsed, creating a terrifying gap between the buildings. Desperate to reach his family, Kwon made a split-second decision. Ignoring the risks, he leapt across the broken bridge, hundreds of feet above the ground.

A Desperate Race to Reunite

Upon landing safely, Kwon rushed down to his apartment, only to realize that his wife and daughter had already evacuated. Without hesitation, he raced down more than 40 floors, weaving through panicked residents, until he finally reunited with them outside the building. The moment was a testament to his determination and love for his family.

Viral Hero and Global Praise

Kwon’s heroic act was caught on video, quickly spreading across social media. Netizens worldwide praised his bravery, calling him the “ultimate dad” and a real-life action hero. Many shared messages of admiration and relief that the family was safe.

Structural engineers have inspected the building, and authorities are assessing earthquake preparedness. Meanwhile, Kwon’s daring leap remains the defining image of this terrifying event.
