Before becoming a mum, traveling was my utmost joy in life. I often think of the calm and peace that came with Bali’s white sandy beaches, that one hike up Hong Kong’s Victoria Peak in cold weather, and the adrenaline I got from jumping off a 14-metre waterfall cliff in Cebu. The mum version of me is feeling more grounded (literally) now… but who’s to say we can’t relish in nature and enjoy new experiences with our little ones – right here in Singapore? Here are the top five places on my list!
- Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve
Imo, this is the ultimate nature walk. Several boardwalks are stroller-friendly (a term that gets me excited ever since #mumlife) and it allows for opportunities to spot wildlife such as migratory birds, wild crocodiles and monitor lizards. There’s a Junior Adventure Trail that comes with obstacle courses and pulley boats for the little ones to get through and even a stone path that crosses a pond. Definitely one for the books if you’re looking for a fun day of exploration and nature with your little ones.
I love Sentosa, periodt. There’s the wide and spacious Sentosa Boardwalk right against water, giving you a nice view for your leisure stroll into the island. Once you’re in, there’s beaches (and clubs for your midday cocktail), Universal Studios Singapore, S.E.A Aquarium, and cable cars. I’ve always wanted to visit Fort Siloso Skywalk, and I’d be sure to bring my lil one along for a scenic treetop walk, and an aerial view of West Singapore. With tons of family-friendly activities, Sentosa certainly makes for Asia’s favourite playground. Get your sunscreen on!
I have been completely sleeping on the Canopy Park all this while, not gonna lie. Pre-mum me was all about the Rain Vortex and A&W. Right now, the Canopy Park is on my must-go list with my lil one. Turns out, there are all sorts of mazes, bouncy sky nets, indoor walking trails, slides and even a playground with puffs of mists sprouting out of nowhere. This sounds like what dreams are made of if I were a kid again, and certainly the perfect place for a family day out when the heat gets unbearable in our dear sunny Singapore.
Bringing my lil one here to walk through Haw Par Villa is an ode to my childhood days, where my mum would bring us here and not leave until we have taken photos with all the statues. I found a newfound sense of appreciation of the place, with its Chinese folklore and mythology. Its a short walk, but definitely wear shoes so you can Usain Bolt your way out if your lil one gets scared and starts screaming at some exhibitions.
Possibly the most picturesque and child-friendly out of the list! I used to think it was just flowers and… flowers. To my amazement, there’s water play areas for kids and a 22m high skyway which is also #stroller-friendly and gets you the best views of the light show.
My personal favourite time to visit Gardens By The Bay is definitely the Christmas Wonderland season, with festivities and celebration all around.
