After a year of soaring COE premiums, Singapore’s focus on promoting a car-light lifestyle is back in the spotlight. The collaborative efforts of six statutory boards signal the return of Car-Free Sunday to the Civic District and Central Business District on March 17, 2024.
Collaborative Efforts for a Car-Light Singapore
It’s not just a random event; it’s a concerted effort involving six key statutory boards. The Land Transport Authority, Health Promotion Board, Housing and Development Board, National Parks Board, Sport Singapore, and the Urban Redevelopment Authority are all coming together to make Car-Free Sunday a reality once again.
Road Closures for a Greener Future
For a few blissful hours from 8:00am to 11:00am, designated roads in the Civic District and Central Business District will bid farewell to the constant stream of cars. It’s a temporary farewell, but one that speaks volumes about our commitment to a more sustainable future.
Exciting Activities for Everyone
But hold your plans! The fun doesn’t stop with road closures. St. Andrew’s Road and Esplanade Drive will transform into activity hubs from 8:00am to 2:00pm.
Corridor of Possibilities
Over on St. Andrew’s Road, prepare to be immersed in the “Corridor of Possibilities.” This interactive exhibition showcases how community spaces can be reimagined for pedestrians and cyclists, aligning perfectly with the vision for a car-light Singapore.
Family Fun on Esplanade Drive
For families, Esplanade Drive is the place to be. The Health Promotion Board’s Active Family Programme will host guided activities like inline skating and skateboarding. Plus, there’s a chance to try your hand at aeromodelling and korfball, thanks to SportSG’s partners.
Cheers to a Greener Tomorrow
As you soak in the festivities and enjoy the activities, remember the bigger picture. Car-Free Sunday isn’t just about closing roads; it’s about opening minds to alternative modes of transportation and creating a greener, healthier Singapore.
Mark Your Calendar
So, mark your calendars for March 17 and join us in embracing Car-Free Sunday. Let’s walk, cycle, and skate our way towards a brighter, car-free future.
