When it comes to classical ballet, few productions rival the timeless allure of Sleeping Beauty. This opulent masterpiece, blending formal rigour with sheer choreographic pleasure, returns to captivate audiences in 2024 through the graceful movements of the Singapore Ballet. Prepare to be whisked away into a world where love triumphs over curses and where the power of true love’s kiss reigns supreme.
A Tale of Love and Curses
The enchanting narrative of Sleeping Beauty unfurls as Princess Aurora’s christening gathers the royal court. However, the joyous occasion turns sinister when the wicked fairy Carabosse, scorned by a forgotten invitation, unleashes a malevolent curse upon Aurora. Yet, hope emerges in the form of the benevolent Lilac Fairy, who alters the curse so that Aurora shall instead slumber for a century until awakened by true love’s kiss. Thus begins a saga of trials, perseverance, and undying love.
