A breast cancer diagnosis comes with appointments, treatment plans, and difficult decisions. Yet beyond the medical milestones, there is a whole life that continues: the people she loves, the work she does, the routines she keeps, and the moments she looks forward to.
This is the idea at the heart of Faces of Courage: Stories Beyond the Diagnosis, an exhibition by ABrandADay and Breast Cancer Foundation (BCF) for Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2026.
Now open to the public at COURTS Nojima (The Heeren), the exhibition features portraits by photographer Franz Navarrete and short films displayed on LG digital screens, bringing five Pink Warriors aged 30 to 42 into focus through their own words and experiences.
Each woman is pictured alongside someone who has supported her through her journey, from family and friends to medical professionals and the people who share her passions. Together, their stories reveal the relationships, personalities, and everyday moments that continue through and beyond a life-changing diagnosis.
“Cancer doesn’t just diagnose the patient; it diagnoses everyone who loves her. The thing about a breast cancer diagnosis is: it never turns up alone. It lands on the carers, the partners, the peers in the waiting room. A doctor can know the disease inside out, then becomes the patient and discovers she needs her colleagues just as much as anyone. For another Pink Warrior, her comedian partner is a reminder that laughter may not be the cure, but it can help get you through the day,” said Nafe Tong, Chief Creative Officer of ABrandADay.
Five Women, Five Stories
L Wang: Learning to receive care
Doctors are used to leading in the consultation room, not sitting across the table. Diagnosed at 29, L Wang found herself on the other side of the stethoscope. With her oncologist, orthopaedic surgeon, and fellow medical professionals by her side, she now sees what it means to care and be cared for.
Jacqueline Ong: Finding joy in the everyday
Diagnosed at 35, Jacqueline feared what breast cancer might mean for her young child and struggled to share the news beyond her husband. With her mum, family, and friends beside her, she now finds joy in the everyday moments that make life feel full.
Shermin Shu: The fight beyond the ring
For a Muay Thai boxer, bruises come with the territory. Shermin thought little of hers until a breast cancer diagnosis changed the fight entirely. With her fiancé’s humour keeping her grounded and her boxing community still treating her as one of their own, she knows cancer doesn’t change who she is, in or out of the ring.
Nurhana Binte Abdul Ghani: Looking towards the future
With three children, Nurhana had plenty of milestones she wanted to be there for. Diagnosed at 33, she faced treatment, a mastectomy, and the challenge of coming to terms with her changing body. Now cancer-free, she looks ahead to watching her children grow and sharing the moments she once feared she might miss.
Josephine Foong Shu Hua: A long-awaited chapter
After years of IVF and multiple miscarriages, Josephine’s dream of motherhood was put on hold by breast cancer. She took one more chance with her two remaining frozen embryos. Today, she’s a mum to identical twin girls, embracing the chapter she spent years hoping for.
Seeing the Person Beyond the Diagnosis
Conceived and led by ABrandADay, Faces of Courage began with a simple question: what does life beyond a diagnosis look like?
Through five different journeys, the exhibition explores how breast cancer affects more than one person, while revealing the lives that continue around it. A doctor becomes a patient, a mother looks towards her children’s futures, and a boxer draws strength from the community that knows her beyond the ring.
“Every story deserves to be heard, but the way a story is told can make all the difference. We are grateful to ABrandADay for bringing the stories of our young Pink Warriors to live through powerful visuals and an engaging, interactive experience in Faces of Courage: Stories Beyond the Diagnosis Photo Exhibition,” said Jacob Soo, CEO of Breast Cancer Foundation.
“Their creative work brings the experiences of our Pink Warriors and their loved ones closer to audiences, who may never have experienced the cancer journey themselves — helping them see beyond the diagnosis, connect with the emotions behind each story, and appreciate the importance of empathy, understanding, and support.”
The portraits and films bring these experiences to life. Visitors can see the women alongside their loved ones, then hear them speak, laugh, and reminisce in their own voices. As the exhibition’s official screen partner, LG helps create a more intimate and interactive encounter with each woman’s story.
ABrandADay led the concept, design, and creative direction, working with photographer Franz Navarrete and a video production crew to capture candid moments. Singapore womenswear label Y21, whose pieces were sponsored by Founder and Creative Director Jarenis Ho, styled the Pink Warriors in looks tailored to their personalities, bodies and stories.
“Styling the Pink Warriors made me realise something quite simple. They just want to be seen for who they are. Cancer is part of their story, but it doesn’t define them. They are women just like us, with their own personalities, dreams, and so much more to their lives than what they’ve been through,” said Jarenis Ho, Founder and Creative Director of Y21.
For Nafe Tong, the films offer audiences a chance to connect with the women beyond a still image.
“We wanted to capture the women beyond the diagnosis. A lot of people, especially younger visitors, meet stories on a screen first. With the displays, each Pink Warrior can move, laugh, and speak in her own voice. By the time you walk out, it feels like you’ve met someone,” said Nafe Tong, Chief Creative Officer of ABrandADay.
