10 feng shui tips for your kid’s room

22 Aug, 2014

As parents, we all know how great it would be if we could ensure our kids are as healthy and happy as they could be throughout their life journey.

In our desire to help our children, we usually end up exploring different options and methods for assuring they have better and happier lives — one of which is feng shui.

The question, then, is this: Can feng shui help us achieve our dream for the best possible future for our kids?

To help us answer this question, we called for help from Master Goh Guan Leong from the WayOnNet group.

Master Goh Guan Leong has many years of experience in feng shui and Life Analysis. He is also the author of several publications such as 'Essentials of Four Pillars of Destiny'.

In this gallery, he shares the most effective and useful feng shui tips for creating a conducive environment for your kids. By doing so, you can boost their development and prepare them for every phase of their growth.

1. Selection of suitable & auspicious colours for your child

1. Selection of suitable & auspicious colours for your child

The world around us is drenched in colour. It influences how we respond to situations physically and psychologically.

Colours have the power to affect our mood and the feel of a room. Anything that creates a pleasant emotional response can be the perfect ‘inspiration piece’ to help your child.

So then, how do we select the ‘right’ colour to match the needs of our kids? As a rule of thumb, the birth month can be used as an effective guide.

Pink, red, purple and orange are auspicious colours for the months of November, December, January, February, March and April.

Blue and black are auspicious colours for the months of May, June, July, August, September and October.

Having said that, it might be a great idea to seek professional help in determining your child’s auspicious colour.

2. The importance of bed placement

2. The importance of bed placement

A bed is where the kids can have a good night's sleep. A well-balanced bed is very important in providing the kids with a good sense of security.

As for the position of the bed, avoid placing it directly under the beam, directly facing the air-conditioner or in a direct line with the door or toilet.

It would also be good if the bed can have a good supporting wall behind it.

3. Ensure smooth circulation of air in the room

3. Ensure smooth circulation of air in the room

Feng shui emphasizes the importance of the flow of ‘Qi’ (i.e air circulation).  Therefore, be mindful of the quality of air in the bedroom.

Open the windows often to keep the air fresh and full of oxygen.

4. Keep the kids’ bedroom clean and neat

This is another way of allowing the clean air to circulate within the bedroom.

5. Preferably, let your kid’s room be an electronics-free zone

The bedroom is a place for your kids to relax and rest. Electronic items (such as the television, computer, etc.) disrupt the flow of ‘Qi’ and will affect your child’s quality of sleep.

It is thus advisable to remove all unnecessary electronic items from the kids’ bedroom.

6. Avoid placing sharp-pointed decorative items & toys (such as a sword) in your child’s room

Do avoid placing any scary objects in the room. These will make a child feel insecure or unsafe in his or her own bedroom.

7. Display items of special recognition and those that signify your family’s love

It is a good idea to display items such as drawings, family photos, awards and trophies in your child’s room.

8. Design the bedroom according to your child's needs

8. Design the bedroom according to your child's needs

If your kid gets distracted easily or has special needs, keep the design of the bedroom as simple as possible. Avoid wallpaper that has wild, chaotic patterns.

Also, avoid placing the study table in such a way that he or she can see movement outside the bedroom.

9. Selecting the correct 'Academic Position' for the study desk

9. Selecting the correct 'Academic Position' for the study desk

In the ancient science of feng shui, 'Academic Position' is a place that can enhance concentration, thus, help your kids study well.

It is really easy to identify the best Academic Position. Just use the last digit of your child’s birth year (Eg. 2001 and 2011 ends with 1) to find the Academic Position immediately.

You can expect better academic results by placing the study table in the sectors mentioned below.

1 –north, 2 – northeast, 3 – east, 4 – southeast, 5 – south, 6 – southwest, 7 – west, 8 – southwest, 9 – west, 0 – northwest.

10. Select suitable essential oils or an aromatherapy diffuser for your kid's room.
