Which Way Is The Bus Going? The Logic Puzzle That's Easy For Kids But Tough For Adults

2 min read
Which Way Is The Bus Going? The Logic Puzzle That's Easy For Kids But Tough For Adults

This looks like a simple logic puzzle but though kids can answer it instantly, adults find it difficult! Can you tell which way the bus is going?

At first glance, it may seem just like any regular logic puzzle but you’ll be surprised to know that many adults can’t solve it while 80% of children can solve it almost instantly.

The simple question is: Which way is the bus going?

The puzzle was featured in an episode of National Geographic’s Brain Games. Looking at both ends of the photo, it seems that they are identical.

The windows and wheels seem like mirror images of one another but the answer is not what’s there; it’s what’s isn’t there.

It’s the door or lack thereof.

Since there is no visible entrance then the bus must be travelling to the right.

If the bus were travelling left, the entrance door would be visible in the photo.

National Geographic showed it to a number of kids and 80% of them answered it correctly almost instantly.

But why is it easy for kids?

It remains unclear why kids find this brain teaser which stumps many adults so easily. But previous studies have posited that kids are more willing to guess based on incomplete information as opposed to adults.

The fun puzzle has been making the rounds on social media, continuing to baffle many adults the world over.

It’s not only adults who benefit from brain teasers but it also stimulates the mental agility of kids. It has been known to be an effective and engaging tool which helps the cognitive development in children.

These exercises in analytical and critical thinking foster skills in problem solving, memory, logical reasoning, perception, attention and language and auditory processing.

Brain teasers boast many benefits:

  1. Boosts brain activity
  2. Strengthens cognitive skills
  3. Enhances memory and thinking speed
  4. Increases mental flexibility
  5. Reinforces difficult concepts
  6. Teaches many various subjects and topics
  7. Provides a sense of accomplishment
  8. Improves attention span and level of concentration
  9. Makes learning entertaining
