5 Places You Can Visit To Celebrate A Tropical Christmas In Singapore

Have a tropical Christmas in Singapore and here are different activities you can try out this festive season.

“Dashing through the snow…,” “Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow…,” “Rudolph the red nose reindeer…” If you’ve been singing Christmas carols much like us then you know it’s that time of the year when the gent from the North Pole will leave you a gift for being a good person.

Yes. It’s the holiday season! That time of the year when you would want to put your wool jackets on, wrap a muffler around your neck, wear knee-length boots and enjoy a good drink on a snowy day.

But alas, Singapore is yet to be blessed with snow given its tropical nature (not sure for how long given global warming) and that means we need to find our own ways to celebrate Christmas without the snow.

And well, there are plenty of ways to have a tropical Christmas in Singapore in 2021 bringing the goodness of the festive season with some local activities, cuisines, and more to try out.

Here are five things you must try to make it a very tropical Christmas in Singapore 2021.

1. Head To The Beach

We don’t have the mountains to go skiing in December but we do have the beach. So that’s exactly where you should be heading for a tropical Christmas this year.

Head to Sentosa for a fun weekend full of activities. Try out their glamping sites, have a picnic, play beach volleyball or build a sandcastle, there’s plenty to try. It’s also safer compared to other locations given you automatically maintain social distancing on the beach.

2. Plan Lunch In The Countryside

If the beach isn’t doing the trick for you, you can plan a nice and cosy lunch with friends and family in the countryside. The Wildseed Cafe has a great menu specially curated for Christmas. Do try out:

  • Afternoon tea set with smoked salmon cheese tart and mini turkey ham and cheese croissants ($58)
  • Candy cane cupcakes, cheese eclair scones and Christmas tree chocolate
  • Choco-berry pizza and festive flatbread with smoked duck or salmon topping
  • Gingerbread latte and creme brulee frappucino

3. Watch Festive Lights From A Bus

The Orchard Road lights up like a Christmas tree during the festive season and that’s a view worth checking out. So, make sure to get on the Big Bus with the Klook exclusive tour to check out the 31. km-long stretch.

The tour begins from Tanglin Mall to Plaza Singapura with the best seats up top on the open-top bus. Make sure your phone is charged to take some stunning pictures and do not forget the selfies against the bright lights.

The high point of this tour is the 12-metre-tall main arch between t the junction of Orchard Road and Scotts Road, adorned with red, white and gold poinsettias. There’s another one on Tanglin Road too. Head there before dinner and enjoy the lights and several of Singapore’s landmarks too.

4. Check Out The Dinosaurs At Changi

The Changi Airport has plenty of activities lined up for the festive season and you don’t need to brave it out in the sun to enjoy the same. Bringing a unique mix of Christmas and Dinosaurs, there are plenty of fun activities to look forward to.

Start your tour from the Dino Blitz at Terminal 3, a Jurassic wonderland that brings the ice age to the terminal with two moving Brachiosaurus that measure up to 12 metres in length.

Up next, head to Terminal 4 that has the Dino Bounce bouncy castle where kids can jump their hearts out. Meanwhile, the older folk can outrun the dinosaurs on go-karts at the neon-lit indoor go-karting circuit.

Once you’ve worked up an appetite, recharge yourself at the Dino Carnival that brings interesting street food, crafts, carnival games and more including dino fossil hunting and ice fishing.

5. Enjoy A Staycation

Don’t feel like stepping out this tropical Christmas? Don’t worry, we’ve covered you for that too. Instead of planning something too extensive, try enjoying a staycation this Christmas.

Book yourself at Capella Singapore or Parkroyal Collection at Marina Bay overlooking the city’s beautiful skyline. Make sure to check with other hotels too for the best deals and benefits. Enjoy the festivities that the hotels have to offer, make use of their services, try out the restaurants and do book an appointment at the spa.
