7 Things Singaporeans Secretly Hate To Admit

23 Apr, 2016

Let's all stop denying what makes us who we are and start embracing the fact that yes, we use tissues to chope seats

7 things Singaporeans secretly hate to admit

7 things Singaporeans secretly hate to admit

We as Singaporeans are always able to remain positive....at least on the outside! Let's not even try to deny that we keep some things bottled up, whether it's due to egoistical purposes or just to avoid embarrassment and judgements.

We've come up with 7 things we as Singaporean individuals hate to admit, hands up if you can relate!

We think the use of packet tissues is the best method to secure seats in a hawker centre

Nope, it's not a 70s, 80s or even a 90s thing, we still do that now. The hilarious part is, it's not just hawker centres, we do it at fast food joints as well! Why we hate to admit that we do this? Well, because we don't want to seem kiasu, of course!

We don't really mean it when we say we want to migrate to another country

We don't really mean it when we say we want to migrate to another country

Yes, we keep saying we'd be down to pack all of our bags and move away to another country and never come back. And yet we say we miss the food or the safety in Singapore after spending only a week in another country. There are a lot of things that we don't fancy about our country, but the things that we love though, they always weigh out the bad!
We are actually very kaypoh about local celebrities

We are actually very kaypoh about local celebrities

Yeah sure, we keep saying how we don't really support local talents and how "social media influencers" aren't even a thing. Majority of us even act indifferent when we see a celebrity on the streets. And yet, we're scrolling miles through our social media timelines, checking up on what that one particular actress named her new offspring.

Ah, yes. We hate to admit that we're kiasu. We're really competitive, but we just won't show it. You could catch us getting worked up about missing the recent grocery sales or complain about being that next person in line for the prize of a staycation but you will never, I repeat, never have us admitting that we're mad because of that.

We would still choose to depend on our parents

We would still choose to depend on our parents

Not entirely, but we still depend on our parents for good food, or when we're running low on cash at that particular time of the month. The thing is, we're okay with admitting this to our friends, but never to our folks. Although, there's a high chance that they already know of this fact. We will always be that innocent little 7-year-old in their eyes!
We love local dramas

We love local dramas

Whether it's a Chinese, Malay, Tamil or an English drama, we won't admit that we spent the whole weekend binge-watching these shows on Toggle! Why? Might be back to the point of majority claiming Singaporeans don't support local talent!
We remember every lyric to the NDP song: Home

Or rather, every single NDP song that existed before 2006! I mean, it's contradicting and kind of embarrassing singing along to "Count on Me Singapore" on the 9th of August when we're complaining about the heat, the transport and basically everything else every other day of the year!
