In a significant move to enhance support for athletes, Singapore’s Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) has announced plans to consolidate three key sports institutions. The Singapore Sports School, Singapore Sport Institute (SSI), and National Youth Sports Institute (NYSI) will be combined into a single entity. This move aims to streamline resources and offer more seamless support for athletes at different stages of their journey.

The integration process will begin on April 1, 2025, when SSI and NYSI merge to form a new sports institute. The Singapore Sports School will continue to operate as a school while retaining its distinct identity, but will eventually join the new sports entity to ensure closer alignment with Singapore’s high-performance sports framework.
This consolidation aims to simplify the support structure for youth and senior athletes, offering improved continuity in their development. With a unified system, athletes can expect stronger mentorship, enhanced resources, and improved guidance throughout their sporting careers.
Enhanced Support and Expertise
The newly formed entity will also build a stronger base of sports specialists. This includes experts in sports science, athlete management, and career planning. By strengthening these capabilities, the new structure aims to better equip athletes for success, both in their sporting careers and beyond.
New National Training Centre in Kallang
As part of the integration efforts, Singapore Sports School will relocate from Woodlands to Kallang. There, it will serve as the educational hub within a larger sports ecosystem. This move is part of the Kallang Alive Masterplan, designed to transform the area into a vibrant sports and lifestyle district.
The new national training centre will feature improved sports science and medicine facilities, providing enhanced resources for athletes to train and thrive.

Beyond infrastructure, the government is committed to strengthening career support for athletes, ensuring better employability and post-sports opportunities. These initiatives reflect Singapore’s dedication to nurturing sporting talent and building sustainable pathways for their future.
With these upcoming changes, Singapore’s sporting landscape will become more cohesive and effective. Athletes will gain the resources they need to excel in competition and thrive in life beyond sports.
