You may have made an elaborate birthing plan. From finalising the hospital with the best facilities, packing your hospital bag, to preparing your mind and body for childbirth. But your baby may just have some other plans.
This is exactly what happened to this mum who ended up using a taxi as a labour room!
At around 5.50 am, taxi driver Eddie, 53, received an urgent call from a passenger from Marsiling Drive, urging him to rush her to the KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
What happened next, didn’t just surprise the driver, but also the expecting parents.

On reaching the pickup location, Eddie saw a young man desperately running towards the car and opening the door.
The young man informed Eddie that they need to get to the hospital as soon as possible because his pregnant wife was going into labour.
The taxi driver advised them to call the ambulance instead. But since the man insisted that his wife was would be able to hold out until they reached the hospital, Eddie agreed.
Baby Started To Come Out, And Fast!
Just 10 minutes into the journey, and the cab had only reached the Seletar Expressway, the pregnant woman shrieked in pain and yelled to admit that she could feel the baby’s head coming out.
The driver had no choice but to turn the signal lights on and speed up as he made his way through the morning rush hour traffic. It seemed that her baby was also having a fun ride and was eager to pop out!
Soon, the woman again exclaimed that half of the baby’s body was already out. By that time, Eddie knew that it was unlikely that they would make it to the hospital before the baby was delivered.
He realised that it was now or never and he took the decision to exit the highway at Upper Thomson Road. He stopped at Springleaf MRT station just in time for the baby girl to be born inside the taxi.
The driver then called for an ambulance, while the couple remained with their child in the backseat. And soon enough, they were taken to the hospital.

Eddie later shared that since the couple were first-time parents, they were nervous and didn’t know what to do.
But by the grace of God, the little girl arrived near the expected date of the delivery.
Eddie, in the meantime, had to remove the car seat upholstery for cleaning after the “pleasant mess” that occurred inside his vehicle. As a result, he was not able to drive for two weeks.
Despite this, the driver blessed the little girl and gave the new parents his best wishes. He also hoped to get in touch with them again, so he could hand over a gift to them.
He also extended his gratitude to the medical team that assisted the couple after the childbirth.
Congratulations to the new parents and thank you Eddie for your selfless service!
