This means that there will be one more long weekend next in 2022 – making a total of six.

Hari Raya Puasa, also known as Hari Raya Aidilfitri, celebrates the end of the fasting month of Ramadan. On the other hand, Hari Raya Haji marks the end of the annual haj pilgrimage to Mecca.

The highest Islamic authorities of the Republic of Indonesia, Republic of Singapore, Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia have agreed to adopt the revised criteria of the astronomical calculation for the determination of the Islamic calendar from 2022 onwards. This agreement was reached among the member nations after new findings came out over years of research.

The new dates supersede the gazetted dates that were announced in April this year.

You also have the option to apply for leave on the dates following the long weekend, so that you can get to enjoy an extended leave.

For instance, if you take an off on January 31 (Monday) you will be able to enjoy a five-day break. January 29 and 30 falls on a weekend. Plus, February 1 and 2 are Chinese New Year public holiday dates.

Here’s another option, if you take leave on August 8 (Monday), you can get a four-day break.

Here’s how:

August 6 and 7 falls on a weekend, while August 9 is a National Holiday.

Entitlement and Pay

  • Remember, if you are required to work on a public holiday, your employer needs to pay you an extra day’s salary or grant you off in lieu.
  • In case the holiday falls on a rest day, the next working day will be a paid holiday. However, if you are not covered by the Employment Act, it will be as mentioned in your contract.
  • If you are absent without reason on a working day before or after the holiday, you are not entitled to the holiday pay. Your employer can deduct one day’s pay at the gross rate from your monthly gross salary.

So plan next year’s holidays according to this list and enjoy safe travels.
