2019 Public Holidays in Singapore For Parents to Take Note of

To all of you holiday deprived Singaporeans, this is for you...and me.

Whether or not we’re being kiasu Singaporeans, there’s no doubt that we are constantly looking out for our next break or holiday — even better if it stretches over a long weekend. If you’ve been searching for  “Singapore Public Holiday 2019” just so you can plan out fun times with the family, we’ve got you covered!

Singapore Public Holiday 2019: A Guide

The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) has officially released the latest gazette on the Public Holidays in 2019 that everyone can enjoy. And here’s a general overview:

Public Holiday Date Day
New Year’s Day 1 Jan 2019 Tuesday
Chinese New Year 5 Feb 2019 Tuesday
6 Feb 2019 Wednesday
Good Friday 19 Apr 2019 Friday
Labour Day 1 May 2019 Wednesday
Vesak Day* 19 May 2019* Sunday
Hari Raya Puasa 5 Jun 2019 Wednesday
National Day 9 Aug 2019 Friday
Hari Raya Haji* 11 Aug 2019* Sunday
Deepavali* 27 Oct 2019* Sunday
Christmas Day 25 Dec 2019 Wednesday

* The following Monday will be a public holiday.

Singapore Holiday 2019: 4 Long Weekends?

Yes, out of the 11 days of public holidays, three of them falls on a Sunday, which gives us an Off-in-lieu on Monday! We’ll take that.

For a quick overview, here are the 4 long weekends you’ll get in 2019:

Public Holiday Date Day
Good Friday 19 – 21 Apr Friday to Sunday
Vesak Day 18 – 20 May Saturday to Monday
National Day & Hari Raya Haji 9 – 12 August Friday to Monday
Deepavali 26 – 28 October Saturday to Monday

Notice that super long weekend from 9 to 12 August 2019?

How about making 4 long weekends to 6 long weekends instead?

Turn It To 6 Long Weekends By Taking 2 Days of Leave

Public Holiday Date Day
New Year’s Day – Take 1 day off on 31 Dec 30 Dec – 1 Jan Sunday to Tuesday
Chinese New Year – Take 1 day off on 4 Feb 2 Feb – 6 Feb Saturday to Wednesday

If that’s not long enough and you have more leave days to clear, perhaps you could even look at a potential 9 days worth of long holidays! But note that you will need to take even more leaves.

Potential 9 Days Of Long Holidays With Leaves

Month Dates No. of Days to take leave Dates to take leave
February 2 – 10 February 3 days 4 Feb, 7-8 Feb
April / May 27 April – 5 May 4 days 29-30 Apr, 2-3 May
June 1 – 9 June 4 days 3-4 Jun, 6-7 Jun
December 21 – 29 December 4 days 23-24 Dec, 26-27 Dec

Look at the holidays that fall on both the June and December holidays. For parents who are looking to maximise their annual leave, this is it. The best times to go on leave so that your leaves coincide with your kids’ school holidays!

It’s always better to keep a lookout and plan early because an organised parent is a winner in all ways! Now that you are aware of the holidays, go ahead and make your plan well ahead in time.
