Experience a world of art at your doorstep with Arts In Your Neighbourhood

src=https://sg admin.theasianparent.com/wp content/uploads/sites/12/2018/10/arts in neighbourhood.jpg November December school holidays 2018 in Singapore: Fun activities for Families

Organised by the National Arts Council (NAC), Arts In Your Neighbourhood (AYN) returns with close to 70 specially curated activities over three weekends from 8 to 25 November 2018. The arts will be brought to 18 locations island-wide, including residents and working professionals in Woodlands, Admiralty, Ang Mo Kio, Bedok, Pasir Panjang, Tampines, Toa Payoh and Yishun.

Four special commissions are among the key highlights of AYN this November :

1. The Rubbish Prince

A roving theatrical puppetry performance directed by Danny Yeo and Ong Kian Sin and produced by 3Pumpkins, featuring larger-than-life puppets made from recyclables.

2. Jumbo Fabrica

Sweet Tooth leads audiences to a walking trail of three stops, featuring pop-up performances and a hands-on furniture upcycling session to re-discover Woodlands, inspired by how multi-generational families reside in unique jumbo flats found in Woodlands.

3. Placing Home

Woodlands – Commissioned by the Public Art Trust, an initiative of the NAC, five public art works curated by Dr Wang Ruobing will be presented by local and regional artists. They include Chiew Sien Kuan (Singapore), Eko Prawoto (Indonesia), Kayleigh Goh (Malaysia), Michael Lee (Singapore) and Nhawfal Juma’at (Singapore).

The works explore the idea of home and movement within Woodlands, a pivotal town connecting Singapore to Johor Bahru, and invite audiences to look at our surroundings with fresh eyes and ask questions about the world we live in.

4. 酸甜苦辣 - The Four Flavours of Life

A series of four exciting musical works by The TENG Ensemble inspired by a common Chinese saying that describes the multifaceted intricacies of life. It draws reference from themes of longing, happiness, strife and peace, performed in collaboration with Chinese martial arts.

In addition to the list of fun and family-friendly activities by local artists is Musical Notes, a whimsical music and dance roving performance by French arts group Compagnie des Quidams. Three quirky black and white characters on stilts will lead audiences in their musical fantasies as they dance along to different melodies broadcasted.

Other exciting programmes include unforgettable melodies from Studio Ghibli films by Orchestra Collective, ancient Malay folklore that will come to life in Awang Batil by Teater KAMi and game-like interactive music performance When We Get Together by Open Score Project.

Admission is FREE for all activities. For more information on Arts in Your Neighbourhood and Arts for All, please visit http://artsforall.sg.

Have a drone-filled X’mas with Plaza Singapura this year!

‘Tis the season to be droning! This Christmas, Plaza Singapura will awe shoppers with PS Invaders, Singapore’s largest indoor drone festival, from 23rd November to 16th December 2018.

In partnership with Science Centre Singapore, Plaza Singapura looks to bring to the public a unique, highly-immersive drone extravaganza that is guaranteed to elevate anyone’s holiday spirit.

The centrepiece of PS Invaders is a 12-metre high (approximately four floors) drones cage that will greet shoppers at the mall’s main atrium at level 1.

src=https://sg admin.theasianparent.com/wp content/uploads/sites/12/2018/11/PS drone.jpg November December school holidays 2018 in Singapore: Fun activities for Families

Shoppers can take part in exhilarating drone-flying activities and aerial shows, including the Time Attack Challenge, a drone obstacles race, and PS Triathlon Carnival, the first of its kind in Singapore featuring special drones that are able to transform into vehicular devices that can travel through air, land and water.

A visually-enchanting highlight is a drones Christmas medley that will run every evening at 8 pm. Like reindeers prancing in the sky, drones are pre-choreographed autonomously with lights making the entire show simply magical.

PS Invaders will also feature free drone workshops and hands-on activities around the drone cage throughout the day. From building and crafting your very own drone, to learning how to code and fly one using simulators, PS Invaders’ variety of workshops and hands-on activities are suitable for kids and adults across all ages and experience levels.

Shoppers can also look out for little drone buskers, with daily “fly-by” surprises to sweeten their Christmas shopping experience.

From 6th December to 2nd January 2018, Plaza Singapura will also host a variety of festive markets and a dazzling Christmas light-up that is guaranteed to make every shoppers’ Christmas merry and bright.
