Sex with robots? Read on to find out what this means!
Despite Hollywood bombarding cinema with countless movies featuring murderous robots ranging from ‘I, Robot’ to the classic ‘Terminator,’ it looks like people still don’t find robots to be dangerous. However, a recent survey conducted by the Huffington Post and YouGov has raised quite a few eyebrows, revealing that not only are a substantial amount of people comfortable with robots, but some of them would even go to the extent of having sex with one!
Ethical dilemmas to ponder over
The survey was conducted with a sample of 1000 American adults and their feedback was definitely surprising, to say the least. The most jaw dropping result was probably the statistic that almost every 1 out of 10 people would be okay having sex with robots! 18% of the participants also thought that ‘sexbots,’ robots that one can have sex with, would be available by the year 2030.
Sleeping with the enemy
Now the question of sleeping with a robot raises a whole range of ethical questions. Would sex between robots and humans be considered unnatural? Would it be criminalised in Singapore the same way as homosexual sex is? What if a human wants to marry a robot? Before you laugh this one off, just remember that people have married weirder objects ranging from a roller-coaster ride to a video game character. But in this particular case, unlike roller coasters, ‘sexbots’ would actually be able to satisfy your sexual needs. Not to mention, if they were to become incredibly human-like, falling in love with robots doesn’t seem like a far-fetched idea either.
‘Singapore bots’
But then, this can only get weirder and weirder! What if it became possible for humans and robots to mate together and have hybrid children? Would the Singapore government encourage the birth of hybrid children to boost our country’s dismal birth rate? Singapore would become more crowded than it already is!

You, me, and the ‘bot’
You might also want to consider the ethical dilemma of whether it would be considered infidelity if your spouse uses a robot for sex while being married to you? Almost half of the participants in this survey thought it would definitely be considered infidelity. Imagine how tough marriage already is, and now imagine not only having to worry about seductive vixens, but robots as well!

Luckily, ‘sexbots’ have not been invented yet. You can take a sigh of relief. However, that doesn’t mean that it can never happen. Google is already developing a car that can drive itself, and this innovative product could very well enter the market in the next 3 years. If self-driving cars can become a reality, so can ‘sexbots,’ one day. And when they do, they will present many ethical dilemmas for us to ponder over, especially when it comes to our human partners and infidelity.
