Chinese New Year is a time of celebration, a time when families come together to share joy, love, and good fortune. It’s a time when the young pay respect to the old, and everyone indulges in hearty meals and festive treats. But for some, especially seniors in need, this festive period can be a challenging time. Recognizing this, FairPrice Group (FPG) has decided to add a sprinkle of joy to their lives — through CNY care packs.

Through its philanthropic arm, FairPrice Foundation, FPG has pledged S$80,000 to provide festive CNY care packs to 4,000 seniors. This heartwarming initiative, carried out in collaboration with 10 charities, is an embodiment of the true spirit of Chinese New Year — sharing and caring.

Spreading Cheer with CNY Care Packs
Each CNY care pack, valued at around S$18, is filled with products that symbolize the festive spirit. These include tea, cereal drinks, assorted biscuits, and mandarin oranges, traditional treats that are synonymous with Chinese New Year.
These care packs will reach beneficiaries, including those celebrating the festive period in nursing homes, bringing a piece of the festivities to them. This initiative ensures that everyone gets to participate in the joyous occasion, regardless of their circumstances.
Upholding Their Commitment to Seniors

Vipul Chawla, Group CEO of FPG, has rightly said that Chinese New Year “holds great significance for our customers and Singaporeans as a whole”. The S$80,000 commitment is not just a contribution; it represents the group’s dedication to their social mission, particularly during these significant cultural celebrations.
Charities like NTUC Health Nursing Homes, TOUCH Community Services, Allkin Singapore, Ren Ci Nursing Home @ Ang Mo Kio, among others, are part of this initiative. If successful, FPG hopes to expand such initiatives to other celebrations throughout the year.

CNY Block Parties
Besides the monetary pledge, FPG also hosted two CNY block parties on January 20 in heartland neighbourhoods at Saint George’s Lane and Toa Payoh. These events were not just about fun and games; they allowed residents to purchase additional CNY care packs and write a blessing and note of encouragement for the senior beneficiaries.
FPG also provided free health screenings through its pharmacy chain, Unity, promoting community health along with festive cheer.
