Are you curious about the secrets of longevity and what makes people live to be 100 or even beyond? Even living past 90 is already pretty amazing, right?
However, over the years, we can see that the lifespan of the average human being has improved tremendously. We have better health care now along with better knowledge about diet and exercise – key contributors to lasting health and a long life.
In fact, studies indicate that happy people tend to live longer and experience better health than their unhappy peers. But there’s no better way to find out the secrets of longevity than actually asking someone over a century old!
Jessie Gallan’s Secret to Longevity
Meet Jessie Gallan who hails from Scotland and turned 109 in January. She is one of the oldest people in Scotland and has worked hard all her life from the age of 13.
When STV News interviewed her, she told them, “I’ve never had to depend on anybody. But I’m fine.” She told STV her secrets of longevity lies in a good breakfast and plenty of exercises. But when The Times got a chance to talk to the 109-year-old woman she told them this:
“‘My secret to a long life has been staying away from men. They’re just more trouble than they’re worth. I also made sure that I got plenty of exercises, eat a nice warm bowl of porridge every morning, and have never gotten married.”
Then there were others who shared their secrets of longevity… and there seems to be a trend!
There’s Gladys Gough, a British woman who made it all the way to 104 who said:
“I never got married or had a boyfriend either. That probably had something to do with it. I just couldn’t be bothered with men.”
Or how about Leandra Becerra Lumbreras, a Mexican woman who lived till she was 127 who also said her impressively long life was due to never getting married. But she also gave credits to “chocolate” and “sleeping for days on end.”
Are men literally sapping the life out of us women?
Okay… Let’s face it. Some men can be jerks and I believe some of us already know what it is like to be played, to be cheated on, to be emotionally or even physically abused. Somehow there are just men out there who like to think that women are at their disposal and therefore unworthy of any form of respect.
Having said that, not all men are like this, and there are certainly some gems out there. But are they sapping the life out of us women anyway? Maybe a little, but it is because men are just wired differently from us. They may very well argue that women sap the life out of them, too!
After all, when you add past experiences, upbringing and personality into the melee, both of you are bound to have some friction. Trust me if there were fewer arguments between couples, BOTH parties would probably live longer!
As for being happily single… what would it be like to never know the smell of your child’s head when you cuddle them to sleep? Or to have never seen that look of awe (and a bit of horror?) on your husband’s face when he saw you pop a baby. Would you give that all up if the secrets of longevity all point to being single?
I didn’t think so. But that aside, dear men, you have to let us win some of the battles so that we live longer to nag you longer. You have read the article that nagging improves your health, right??
