A 21-year-old Malaysian student sues school, his own international boarding school! Why? The shocking claim is that they messed up his recommendation letters. This alleged mistake has led to heartbreak, with him getting rejected from 15 top U.S. universities. This jaw-dropping story is causing a stir among students and parents all over the world.
How Malaysian Student Sues School Over Improper Handling of Recommendation Letters
Despite having good grades, the student didn’t get into top schools like Harvard, Stanford, and Yale. He believes this is due to the mishandling of his recommendation letters. Interestingly, he was only accepted into three schools — Washington University, University of California in San Diego, and University of California in Davis.
These schools, however, did not require recommendation letters.
Interestingly, the main issue appears to be that the school did not ensure that the recommendation letters were signed by teachers who knew the student personally.
From the student’s perspective, this oversight violated the policies of numerous U.S. schools, which specifically insist on having recommendation letters signed by individuals who are well-acquainted with the applicant.

The student didn’t stop at pointing out the mishandling of his recommendation letters. He also accused the defendants of breaching the contract by failing to provide the necessary support for his university applications.
Furthermore, he alleges unethical practices, with the school supposedly using standardised content for recommendation letters, which could be seen as negligence.
Jeopardised Future
The lawsuit claims that these alleged errors have jeopardised the student’s future career opportunities and potential earnings. As part of the relief sought, the student and his parents demand that the school send a written statement to the U.S. universities involved, explaining and admitting their purported oversight and negligence.
