Recap of 2012 with Your kid -- Events of Note in 2012Another year is about to end and it is time to think back about the wonderful things and the not-so-good events that happened in 2012. Let’s do a recap of 2012 with your kid and learn about the events of note in 2012.

One of the biggest events in 2012 is definitely the 2012 summer Olympics. The Olympics, takes place every four years, was held in London, United Kingdom. During the Olympics, numerous countries sent their best athletes to compete in a variety of sporting events which includes swimming, archery, weight lifting, and so much more. Although a competition, the Olympics bring about camaraderie to all the countries who participated.

Several players in the Olympics made their marks in the year 2012 as well. USA’s Michael Phelps was declared as the most decorated Olympian of all time for garnering 19 medals since he participated in the Olympics. Usain Bolt of Jamaica is still the fastest man in the world and proves it by being the first person to win the 100m and 200m in the Olympics back-to-back.

Also in sports, Lance Armstrong, who is a very famous cyclist, was stripped off his 7 Tour de France titles due to the shocking conclusion regarding several doping allegations. In the NBA, 2012 was the year that Miami Heat won the playoffs with LeBron James finally gotten a taste of the championship title pie.

In terms of movies, your child would remember 2012 as the year where lots of superhero movies were released. This includes the Amazing Spider-man, the Avengers and the Dark Knight Rises. In terms of animated movies, Madagascar 3, the Lorax, Ice Age and Wreck-it Ralph were all big hits this year.

Your child might also remember the highly publicized US elections last November where Barack Obama was re-elected for president. Also in the United States, superstorm Sandy unleashed her wrath on the north east part of the country and caused billions of dollars in damages.

When reminiscing about what happened during 2012, you must never forget to explain to your child about the various and bloody events that happened in Syria, Iran and Afghanistan. Do not overlook the Dark Knight shooting wherein 12 people died and 58 more were injured when a gunman open fired inside a movie theatre where the Batman: A Dark Knight Rises film was being shown. Discussing these types of events to your child, no matter how sad it may be, must be done. Immersing them to this type of events at an early age with your guidance will help them be more compassionate and understanding.
