New Parents Found It Tough To Fire Their Amazing Nanny But Had No Other Choice

New Parents Found It Tough To Fire Their Amazing Nanny But Had No Other Choice

Here's why this couple don't want to let go of their amazing nanny but have to!

Hiring a good nanny can be a real challenge because it is all about learning to trust a stranger to care for your child. They can also be a great addition to your family and help you make a smooth transition back to work.

Plus, it is a cherry on the top if your child truly loves their company.

So it’s natural that letting them go can perhaps be the hardest decision for parents. This dad had a similar story to share online.

New Parents Couldn’t Find Any Reasons To Fire The Nanny, But Had To

The dad posted on Reddit that he and his wife are having to let go of their “incredible nanny.”

But why will anyone do that, you ask? He explained that their son started a top tier preschool, which in normal circumstances, they wouldn’t have been able to afford.

But since his employer is covering some of the cost, they decided to go ahead and grab the opportunity.

So it made no sense for them to keep a nanny now, which is why they’re having to let go of her. “It is hard because this nanny has been a complete angel and has treated our son with so much care and love,” said the dad.

As a severance package, they will pay her a month’s salary. Also, if after a month, the nanny is unable to find another position, the parents will keep her on ‘one day a week’ for an additional month.

The Compensation Sounds Fair, Other Parents Say

He asked other Redditors if the gesture was good enough or if someone has some other advice on the same.

Most parents agreed that he had chalked out a “fair” severance package for their nanny. Some users also suggested he write a good recommendation letter and also refer her to other parenting groups.

A user wrote, “A month’s severance pay is fair. If she’s a good nanny I will be surprised if it takes her longer than that to find a new position.”

Another chimed in saying, “You can leverage your social media and post something about how you hate to see her go, she’s awesome, etc. Also, if anyone needs a great nanny, they can DM you and maybe help her get a job that way too.”

While this said employer was fortunate to have a reliable nanny for his son, not everybody is as lucky. In some cases, you may even have to fire a nanny.

If you’re struggling to understand when you may have to take the tough decision, this list should come in handy.

5 Reasons You Will Have To Fire A Nanny

1. Theft

If you are sure your nanny is stealing from you, it is a good enough reason for immediate termination. However, before pointing fingers, it may be a good idea to be absolutely sure that you haven’t accidentally misplaced items.

2. Lack of attention on work

If you find that your nanny isn’t paying any attention to your child, that’s a good enough reason to terminate them immediately. Its a good idea to be clear about your expectations and how you want the nanny to care for your child.

3. Use of drugs or alcohol on the job

You can terminate your nanny if you find her under the influence of any substances while at work. If you find drugs or alcohol in your house, you can contact the agency and file a complaint.

4. Unreliable

Reliability, while subjective, is also the cornerstone value of a nanny’s job. They need to report to work on time and are expected to do so with sincerity. However, if you often find them going off in the middle of the day or not even showing up at all, it is time to have a chat.

5. Isn’t serious about child safety rules

You need to list down clear child safety rules and brief your nanny about it from the very first day. You should also be careful to explain what you expect from the nanny in case of an emergency.

Make sure to interview your nanny and brief her about your child before hiring her for the job. Remember, the nanny-parent relationship relies on trust. A little bit of understanding and compassion for each other can help in strengthening the bond as well as benefit the development of the child.
