6 nutrients that women need most...are you getting enough of these?

28 Apr, 2014

Ever wondered what nutrients you should be getting as a woman? We've got the 6 nutrients women need most for her body to be at its best!

Nutrients for women

Nutrients for women

What 6 nutrients should women never go without? We’ve got the list, read on to find out!
1. Vitamin B6

1. Vitamin B6

Where can you find it? Bananas.

What does it do for you? Improves your metabolism while helping your body break down proteins easier. It aids in regulating your mood, appetite and sleep cycle. Definitely a must for all you busy, career women out there.
2. Vitamin B12

2. Vitamin B12

Where can you find it? Fish.

Mackerel, salmon and tuna are your best bets. What does it do for you? It is essential for the manufacture of red blood cells that transport oxygen. This in turn, improves alertness and combats fatigue.
3. Folate (Vitamin B9)

3. Folate (Vitamin B9)

Where can you find it? Sunflower seeds.

What does it do for you? It lowers your risk of colon and breast cancer. On top of that, folate prevents brain and spinal defects in the first weeks of pregnancy. Mommy’s-to-be, take note!
4. Vitamin D3

4. Vitamin D3

Where can you find it? Portobello mushrooms.

What does it do for you? Your body actually produces vitamin D3 with the help of sunlight. However, if you aren’t able to catch enough rays Portobello mushrooms (or other mushrooms grown in sunlight are a great source). It is essential for strong bones and muscles. Great for protecting against ovarian and breast cancer, too!
5. Calcium

5. Calcium

Where can you find it? Milk.

What does it do for you? After the age of 35, both men and women start to lose calcium from their bones. Women, however, lose far more than men during menopause. What many people don’t realise, is that the degree of osteoporosis is dependent on the amount of calcium received earlier on in life. So to ensure strong bones later on in life, ensure you’re getting a healthy dosage!
6. Iron

6. Iron

Where can you find it? Spinach.

What does it do for you? Iron helps your red blood cells transport oxygen to the rest of your body. With ample oxygen being transported to your body, you will feel less tired and more alert. Due to monthly menstruation, women need more iron than men typically do.
