Woman Who Gave Birth To Nonuplets Says She Goes Through 100 Diapers A Day

Woman Who Gave Birth To Nonuplets Says She Goes Through 100 Diapers A Day

Halima Cisse, 26 gave birth to nonuplets in May this year, breaking octomum' Nadya Suleman's record of 2009.

Halima Cisse, 26, who gave birth to nonuplets on May 5 this year recently revealed that she only found out about it minutes before undergoing a cesarean section.

Speaking to MailOnline, she said, “It was a total shock when I found out that I was having nine babies because I thought it was going to be seven.”

“As the babies were coming out, there were so many questions going through my mind. I was very aware of what was going on and it seemed as if there was an endless stream of babies coming out of me,” the new mum added.

Cisse, who had her nonuplets at the Ain Borja clinic in Casablanca, Morocco broke octomom Nadya Suleman’s record of 2009, when she gave birth to eight surviving babies.

While the birth of her nonuplets babies has given Cisse and her husband Kader Arby, 35, great joy, it has also brought along its own set of challenges.

The new parents revealed that they go through a whopping 100 nappies a day and six litres of milk, making Halima so tired that she spends most of her time sleeping and watching TV.

Incidentally, the nine babies were conceived naturally and weighed between 500 grammes to 1 kilo at the time of their birth. They are still in the incubators, where they are being taken care of round the clock by a team of expert doctors and nurses.

Cisse and her husband have a young daughter, back home in Mali, thus making them parents to ten children in total.

She revealed that even three months after giving birth, she is still recovering and only visits her babies twice a day for up to 30 minutes to bond with them. She still lacks the energy to keep up with her babies’ exhausting care regime.

The babies are fed every two hours and they drink a combined 6 litres of formula milk per day. Almost 100 nappies are used, as they are changed every two hours. Plus, every three hours, the babies go through health checkups.

The bill for treating her babies has so far cost £1million and it has been paid by the Malian government.

She further revealed how she ran out of breast milk within a month of giving birth. Her babies are expected to remain in the hospital for another two months.

Under the care of a staff of 35 professionals, it took Cisse just around 20 minutes to give birth to all her nine babies – five girls and four boys.

The doctors estimated that her pregnancy belly was almost 30 kg. While she was under medical care, the physical pressure of birthing nine babies took a toll on the new mum who almost died from blood loss during the delivery.

But, the medical team managed a successful delivery, where both the mum and her nonuplets babies were safe.

All the kids were named, seven days after their birth, according to Islamic tradition. The doctors informed that the health of all the babies has improved over the past three months.

Cisse’s husband Mr Arby, a sailor in the Malian Navy admitted that looking after his new family would be “financially challenging.”

They currently live in a three-bedroom apartment and now they will have to look for a bigger house to accommodate his 10 kids.

However, he said that these things can be thought over in future, for now, they are focused on the well-being of the nonuplets babies and are working on getting them home.

The couple who married in 2017, say they have not ruled out the possibility of having more children.

As shared, Nadya Suleman was the previous record-holder before Halima Cisse. She had eight babies in 2009 and was dubbed an ‘Octomom.’ She gave birth via IVF treatment, which she started in 1997 at the age of 21 years with a $165,000 settlement she received after getting a back injury at work.

The mum who is now aged 45, lives in Los Angeles with her 14 children.
