It is alarming to see how liberated our youths are today. More and more teens are engaging in casual sex just to fit in or be considered cool. Some start out by just experimenting, but eventually get hooked to it. Teens say that it’s no big deal but parents know that there’s a lot of reasons why we should be concerned about this kind of mindset. Sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies are just some of the reasons for such concern.
Just take the case of this girl as reported in The Straits Times. This teenager became pregnant but kept her condition a secret from her mother and siblings. For fear of being discovered, she put her newborn son in the washing machine after giving birth to him in the bathroom.
This girl’s mother became suspicious when she saw spots of blood on the girl’s blouse. Upon investigation, she discovered the bloodied baby inside the washer, quiet but still alive. She immediately called the ambulance, and her daughter and the baby were immediately brought to the hospital.
It’s shocking to read stories like this. We can see how a casual attitude towards sex can lead to disastrous situations. Hence, we have to be more proactive with our kids when it comes to this issue. Start giving them guidance and counsel about sex before the media or their peers gets to them first.
