It’s tough enough to have to undergo chemotherapy and lose all of your hair as an adult. But imagine having to go through all of that as a child?
So 31-year-old Holly Christensen, a former oncology nurse and mother of three, started The Magic Yarn Project to help little girls with cancer feel like the princesses they really are.
The idea first started when the 3-year-old daughter of one of her friends got diagnosed with lymphoma. She knew there was much suffering ahead for the little girl, so Holly decided to make a yarn wig for her.
She tells babble.com, “I knew she would be going through a difficult time, and that no one would be able to take her suffering away. I also knew that losing her long, curly blonde hair at not even 3 years old would be difficult for her, so I figured that the yarn wig could help bring a little magic and fun to a difficult time in her life.”
With the generous support of people in her community and beyond, Holly is bringing a touch of magic to the lives of young cancer patients through beautiful and whimsical “princess” wigs, all made painstakingly by hand.
