As parents, we can get fairly protective of our little ones, particularly when it comes to their health and safety.
A mum has posted to Mumsnet about her mother-in-law, who intentionally went against her wishes regarding her baby’s dietary requirements due to his allergy.

“I’m currently breastfeeding a baby with CMPA,” the woman wrote in her post.
“I’m on a strict no dairy diet.”
The woman went on to say that her mother-in-law invited her over for dinner. She mentioned to her three times in the week leading up to the dinner that she could not have any sort of dairy because she is breastfeeding a baby with an allergy to cow’s milk protein. She even messaged her again on the day of the dinner specifying not even any seasoning she uses can contain dairy.
She says the mother-in-law has form for dismissing this sort of thing, saying “doctors always come up with new silly things.”
“Fast forward to me tucking into chicken breast,” the woman continued, “and plain potatoes, her partner lets slip about the ready basted chicken in the bag being so handy… basted in… butter.”
The mother-in-law said, “Oh it’s fine, I peeled the skin off yours once it was cooked.”

“I’d already ate a decent sized chunk of it so by this point there was no turning back, I just didn’t touch another bite,” the woman wrote.
“I’m so f*cking angry. I was so shocked I didn’t say a single word but I wish I had.”
The woman wanted to give her mother-in-law a piece of her mind but instead decided to let her partner deal with his own mother instead.
“I’m in for a sh*t few days (literally) with LO’s (little one’s) tummy so maybe I’ll let him do the talking in case I do lose my head,” she wrote.
In this woman’s case, she mentioned her son’s reaction, which thankfully was not as severe as anaphylaxis. She referred to his previous reaction as “nearly eight hours of crying a day and sore nappies.”
“She’s a moron”

The internet was split on this one, with many jumping to conclusions about the older woman’s intentions.
One person said the mother-in-law is “a moron,” adding, “I’m 65, I was allergic to dairy as a baby, so it’s not a new thing!”
Another suggested she, “ask her around to help with the sh*tty nappies and holding a screaming baby so you can shower and eat.”
“Wow just wow,” added another. “I wouldn’t let that woman near me or my dc (dear children) ever again.”
Others could see things from the mother-in-law’s perspective.
“I think you need to calm down,” commented one. “It doesn’t sound like she did it maliciously.”
Another pointed out she had taken the skin off the food: “She said she took the skin off the potatoes which demonstrates ignorance more than malice… Try to educate her rather than berate her.”
Clearly the mum is in protective mode over her little one, and given his response is likely to involve a very upset stomach and lots of crying, she must be dreading the next few days.
