A shocking video of a maid abusing a little girl has come to light.
The incident was reported by Chinese daily Lianhe Wanbao recently,

According to Lianhe Wanbao, the Myanmar maid was hired by a Vietnamese couple to look after their two daughters aged 5 and 6. She had been working with the family for less than 4 months.
The parents apparently work from 4 pm to 2 am at a Pasar Malam, thus they needed to rely on their helper to look after the girls.
Two weeks ago, the mummy found blue-black bruises on her daughter’s forehead. She questioned the maid, who said that it was due to a bicycle fall.
Says the mummy, “She looked completely innocent and I didn’t doubt her. Last week I checked CCTV footage to see if she was helping my daughter to apply her ointment…”
What she saw was shocking.
The maid had been abusing the girls. On many occasions, she had used spoons, pencil case, TV remote controller, broom etc to hit the girls violently. She was also seen grabbing the girl’s hair and forcefully pushing her against the table.
The maid seemed cold and heartless throughout. Even when the girl cried, she continued to beat her up.
As per the report, in one video, one of the girls was hit using a spoon until her nose bled. The maid wiped the blood off and continued to hit the girl with the spoon.
CCTV footage also revealed that the maid was hitting the children almost every day for about 10 mins to over an hour.
The distressed mummy asks, “CCTV has only 30 days of records. Who knows from January to March what she (the maid) did to my two daughters? I feel angry when I think of it.”

How to make sure your child is safe with your maid
Our mummy in this case may not have known about the abuse, if she had not checked her live feed. How do we know for sure if our child is well taken care of? Especially if she is too young to talk or communicate? Here are some pointers:
These days we have the luxury of knowing what’s happening in our homes, even when we are on the go. It is however important to let the maid know of the existence of such a camera, lest she complains of breach of privacy.
Don’t stick to fixed timings. Come home early once in while to see what’s really happening. One of my friends came home earlier than expected one day, only to realise that the maid had taken her baby out, to meet her boyfriend!

Observe your baby for warning signs
Monitor your child. Is she sleepier than normal or not eating well? Check her body for any signs of bruising.
Does your little one appear fearful, anxious, or refuse to stay with her, even after your maid has been with you for some time? If yes, then the situation warrants more investigation.
Be specific about house rules, such as work that needs to be completed everyday, use of handphone, leaving the house without permission etc.
Explain to your maid on how she should treat your child. Be clear on whether she is allowed to discipline your child, and how she is to do that. Sometimes leaving things unsaid could cause her to use her own tactics, which may not be how you like things done.
Many a time, the maid vents her frustrations on the baby/child because she’s too stressed or tied up with her work. Sit with your maid, and make sure she’s comfortable with the tasks at hand. Discuss on a timetable that you can follow daily. Make sure that she is healthy, and has enough sleep and energy for all her tasks.
If you treat your maid well, the chances of them taking out anger on your kids are significantly less.

Communication and training
Wherever possible, write down specific instructions to be followed, and put it up on the wall, or on the fridge. You might even want to take some time off work to train your maid in the initial days, until she gets used to your home environment.
Always encourage your maid to be honest with you. If the child gets injured, or gets hurt, the maid should know that it is her duty to immediately inform her employer.
When on the lookout for someone to take care of your little one, always check if she has prior experience in doing so. Inexperienced hands may lack the maturity and patience to deal with your baby / child. Talk to referees and previous employers, before you take the big step.
