Infants need their space. Put them in controlled area such as a playpen and they’ll most probably start wailing. But the moment you pick them up they stop. It isn’t just the warmth of your hug that has this effect; it’s also their inherent understanding that they’re leaving their control space.

Your house may have ample space for your little one to crawl around and enjoy. But, what happens when he/she has to be cared for in a centre?

With that on our minds TheAsianparent went out to search for a centre that appreciates and understands children’s space and we found one, in an extremely convenient location.

Learning Vision @ Cecil

Located at 137 Cecil Street Aviva Building, smack in the middle of the Central Business District, Learning Vision is convenient for parents who work in the area and want to sneak a peek at their precious ones during lunch time or tea break. Catering for children from newly born to 6 years of age, Learning Vision sees each child as a unique individual equipped with a curious mind.

The Environment

Playing indoors

The first thing that caught our attention was the manner in which the infants are looked after and cared for. All infants above the age of 11 months are allowed to move about in a free and safe area as they build their gross motor skills with teachers who are always around to hold and support any unsteady baby. Children younger than 11 months have their own separate area one floor below, where they enjoy nursery rhymes or cooed to sleep.

The centre also has specially allocated a room for breastfeeding, where nursing mothers can zip in during lunch hours or break times to breastfeed their little ones in complete privacy.

What do the babies do when they’re not sleeping, being fed or changed? There are no strict timetables for infants to follow, but gym and art lessons are regular fixtures. How do the parents know what their little one has eaten or done during the day?

“Teachers give feedback daily in a ‘Daily Journal’ that is available to be viewed at any time by parents. The journal includes the food intake for the day, nappy changes and activities participated in,” explains Ms. Kamarunisa, principal of the centre.

Books Galore!

A special bond is definitely being nurtured between the educators and the babies at Learning Vision @ Cecil Street, but not one where infants become attached to one particular teacher. The centre rotates the teachers among the babies so that human contact remains as the most important aspect of child development, but with many different people rather than just one. With all that space to crawl about, clean nappy and a full tummy, we don’t see what any baby would fuss about at Learning Vision. The best thing about Learning Vision @ Cecil? The preschool services provided for toddlers to kindergarten 2 (6 years of age), is that these kids are at the other wing of the school, therefore the infants’ resting, playing, etc are not interfered or interrupted.

Workshop

If parenting workshops is your thing, head’s up! In the month of April, a series of parenting workshops have been organised (with free lunch included!).
