The Ultimate Guide For A Family Trip To Lazarus And St John's Island

Bring the kids along for some beach fun to Lazarus and St John's Islands that are both just 30 minutes away from mainland.

With various islands just off the little red dot, you don’t need to fly too far for a sunny getaway! If you’ve been itching to spend a family holiday by the beach, Lazarus Island and St John’s Island are just the places for you.

The best part: they’re only about 30 minutes away from Singapore!

To help you plan your trip to these Southern Islands, we’ve made a complete guide on how to get there and all the things you can do with the entire family.

Lazarus Island, or also known as Pulau Sekijang Pelepah, is actually connected to St John’s Island through a causeway.

With its clean white beach and C-shaped lagoon, this has been a popular getaway destination for many families in Singapore.

If you’re one of the many island goers who want to visit the popular Lazarus Island, here’s all you need to know.

How To Get There

There is no ferry terminal on Lazarus Island but you can take a ferry to St John’s Island first since both are connected with a pavement you can walk over.

This 100-meter paved causeway between the islands will only take you about 10 to 15 minutes.

Take note that there are two ferry companies shuttling between the Southern Islands. You can choose either of the following to get there:

  • Marina South Ferry: You can island hop between St John’s Island, Lazarus Island, Kusu Island and Sisters’ Island.
  • Singapore Island Cruise: Get to visit St John’s Island, Lazarus Island and Kusu Island.

Prices
Adults: $15 (Weekends) / $18 (Weekdays)
Children aged 12 and below: $12

You can also check here to find the schedule of the ferries.

What To Bring

For the short day trip, here are a few items you can bring that you may find will come in handy:

  • Water
Especially on hot summer days, it’s best to bring some extra water in case the kids get thirsty during your trip.
  • Sunblock
For those looking forward to having some beach fun, make sure you stay protected from the blazing sun by applying sunblock.
  • Insect repellent
Don’t let mosquitos ruin your mini-vacation and bring along insect repellent for you and the kids.
  • Food
While there are convenience stores located at the ferry terminal, you will find that there are NO stores on the islands themselves. So if you’re planning to stay long, prepare a picnic beforehand or pack some extra snacks in case you get hungry during your trip.

Many beachgoers and families love to flock over to Lazarus Island. It has even been coined as one of Singapore’s best-kept secrets.

If you also want a peaceful and relaxing island day out with the kids, here are things you can do at Lazarus Island:

  • Take a stroll through its C-shaped lagoon

For those wanting to get a perfect tan line, this is the perfect place to soak under the sun. But as mentioned before, don’t forget to apply sunscreen every now and then and keep yourself protected from the sun.

  • Have a picnic

Take advantage of all the sun at Lazarus Island and enjoy a picnic with the entire family. You can lay it out either on the sandy beach or find a spot at the greenery along the island.

  • Swim your way to the beach

With the clean sandy beach and sparkling blue sea, you definitely can’t miss out on swimming. Splash around the shore with the kids or take a refreshing dive into the waters.

Parents should also keep in mind that there are no lifeguards on duty so always ensure your child is supervised while swimming at the beach.
