Children continue to be infected by COVID-19 in Singapore. As more community cases are detected islandwide, there have been reports of 97 kids with Covid on the island.
According to a local update (shared on September 28) on COVID-19 by the Ministry of Health (MOH), the number of new cases hit 2,226, which is the first time the country has surpassed the 2,000 mark.
97 Kids In Singapore Reported To Be Infected With Covid

As of Tuesday (28 September) at 12 pm, 97 kids under 11 years were reported to be infected with Covid. This is out of the 1,711 community cases recorded on that day.
About 88 children of this age group have also reportedly been hospitalised. They are among a total of 1,086 infected cases that are currently hospitalised in Singapore.
There have also been reports of 42 new cases of COVID-19 in teenagers aged between 12 and 18 years.
Despite new cases of kids with Covid in Singapore, none of them have developed severe illnesses that would require oxygen supplementation. No child has also been brought to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Despite this, parents should remain cautious about their children’s health and safety as well as ensure they avoid any risk of transmission within their family.
Senior Minister of State for Health, Janil Puthucheary has also advised that the government should stay alert of the possibility of more children getting infected with the virus in the future.
How Parents Can Ensure Their Children’s Safety

With the recent news of over 300 kids in Singapore being infected with Covid, Dr Puthucheary listed several ways parents can help reduce the risk of transmission.
The suggestions he gave to ensure our children’s safety are of the following:
- Maintain good hygiene
- Keep homes clean
- Wear masks when outside
- Cut back on social activities where masks need to be off
- Avoid prolonged social interactions
- Get vaccinated
Currently, only children aged 12 years and above can receive jabs of the vaccine. But on 20 September, both Pfizer and BioNTech announced that their trial results reveal that their Covid vaccines are safe for kids aged 5 to 11 years.
While further research needs to be done, medical experts have reiterated that vaccinating kids is necessary for the country to achieve herd immunity.
Until then, it is important that you have your kids vaccinated when it becomes available to their age group.
