My sister in law and her family had come back from Australia to stay in Singapore for good. I was about to due on the 1st day of Chinese New Year. We had a family dinner together and she kept saying, “your feet are so swollen. Who knows, you might gave birth tonight.” I brushed off her comments by replying: where got so accurate?!
That night, after a full dinner. My Hubby and I settled ourselves in bed. Hours later, about 2am, I woke up to go to the restroom, I was actually bleeding. I woke my Hubby up and decided to see our gyne the next morning, as she had reassured that there was no need to worry if there was any blood and to just go see her.
I went back to bed. As soon as I got into bed, I felt a gush of water flowing out from my lower body. My water bag had broken!! I headed for my shower and we packed ourselves to Thomson Medical Centre where I was admitted. The whole journey to the centre was relaxing as I felt no pain at all. I even threatened my Hubby – if there wasn’t a 4 room ward available, I am not giving birth!
The nurse checked my baby’s heartbeat and got me to shower again and clear my bowels. I was sent to the delivery suite. I was still very relaxed. So my Hubby and I watched TV.
I was not allowed any beverage except water. At 4am, my contractions began. It was so painful I kept screaming in the suite. I asked for laughing gas which did not work for me and I puked all my dinner. I gripped my Hubby’s hands so tight he had to remove his wedding ring as it hurt him so much. The nurse came in twice to keep my volume down as I was the only one making so much noise.
I asked for a pillow and start to bite it once the contractions came very now and then. My Hubby asked me if I wanted epidural as it was only a few hundred dollar more. I screamed at him “NO!” In a stresstul room with me, he had to take his smoking break to calm himself down. I asked the nurse for an alternative pain relief as I realised that I could not stand the pain any more! She gave me an injection which is not epidural. I was so high that my Hubby was surprised to see me so relaxed when he returned.
At about 8am, our Gyna came in and was happy to see me making so much noise. My Hubby was speechless, thinking “is he for real or what?” I was ready for the birth of my son!
The Gynae even joked that I only need 3 push for the baby to come out, nothing more than that. My Hubby saw the process of my son birth as a hilarious one. He said the 1st push he saw a hair, 2nd push he saw the baby head, the third push, the baby flew out!!!I was so tired and happy to see my son.
What an unforgettable experience!
