Children injured in kindergarten
According to Reuters, the children were returning to the classroom after their morning exercises when the attack happened. The 39-year-old woman, known only as Liu, used a kitchen knife, as she chased and slashed the students.
Pictures and videos of the incident have emerged on social media. Little children were seen with blood on their clothes and faces.
The children were taken to hospital, while the kindergarten staff and security guards controlled the attacker. Four children are said to be seriously injured.
Police are investigating the incident and the motive for the attack is unknown.
Knife attacks are getting more common in China and have been attributed to mental illnesses and frustrations.
In April, a man killed 9 students and injured 11 in a knife attack at a middle school in the central province of Shaanxi. He was given the death penalty and executed.
Again in June 2018, a man used a kitchen knife to attack three boys and a mother near a school in Shanghai. Two of the children died. Apparently, the man was unemployed and the attack was his way of taking revenge on the society.
Chinese law is very strict when it comes to the sale and possession of guns, so most attacks are carried out with knives or homemade explosives.
We feel sorry for these little children whose regular day at school turned out to be a nightmare. May justice prevail.
