For this reason, a benchmark is needed to monitor the ideal body weight of your child and baby.

On average, babies grow rapidly in both height and weight during the first four months.

After that, the growth slowed down a bit, as reported on the Mom Loves Best page .

Guidelines from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia set the standard body length for infants and children according to age as follows.

A child who is underweight does not necessarily suffer from malnutrition or severe malnutrition if he is short (stunted) or very short (severely stunted) then the nutritional status can be sufficient or even more nutritious.

So determining nutritional status requires looking at all existing indexes, quoted from the guidelines from the Indonesian Ministry of Health .

Children who are considered tall for their age can also be identified.

On the health card ( KMS ),Parentscan tell when their growth is still near the median line on the child growth chart.

Children with above normal height (very tall) are usually caused by endocrine disorders, but this is rare in Indonesia.

Child growth trends indicate whether a child is growing normally or is at risk for growth that needs to be reassessed.

A child is said to be growing normally if the length/height graph is parallel to the median line.

However, if your little one’s growth seems to be moving away from the median line on the growth chart,Parentscan consult a doctor and other health service providers.

What Factors Affect the Height of a 2-Year-Old Child?

tinggi badan anak 2 tahun

There are at least 6 determining factors for the height of a 2 year old child that can influence the child’s height.

1. Genetic Factors

The main factor determining a child’s height is genetics. Genetics have an influence of 60 to 80 percent on height.

That is why parents who have tall body postures, their children also tend to be tall, reported from the Healthline page .

Other genetic factors that influence a child’s height can also be genetic disorders, for exampleDown syndromeor Marfan syndrome.

Children’s height can also differ in each country due to differences in hereditary background and DNA.

2. Nutritional Factors

Height gain and other growth rates can also depend on whether the baby is breastfed or formula fed.

Breastfed babies gain weight and grow faster than formula-fed babies during the first 6 months, according to the CDC health website .

However, that rate could change over the next 6 months.

Breastfed babies can gain weight and grow more slowly than formula-fed babies when they are 6 months to 1 year old.

Parentscan provide balanced nutrition so that children grow and develop well, sources of nutrition can come from food or drink.

The important role of nutrition for a child’s physical development is needed from when the little one is in the womb until they grow up.

3. Hormonal Factors

Another determining factor for the height of a 2 year old child is the hormonal factor.

The hormones in the body also play a role in a child’s growth, especially in stimulating the formation of new bones.

Some hormones that determine a child’s height include:

  • Growth hormone – this hormone made in the pituitary gland is the most important hormone for growth. However, its production can be inhibited if the body experiences health problems, such as hormone deficiencies or genetic disorders that can limit the amount of growth hormone.
  • Thyroid hormones – thyroid hormones are produced by the thyroid gland, and can also affect a child’s growth.
  • Sex hormones – sex hormones such as testosterone and estrogen are essential for growth during puberty.

4. Gender

Newborn boys tend to be larger than newborn girls, and they usually gain weight a little more quickly during infancy.

Usually, the height of 2 year old boys tends to have a taller body posture than girls.

In fact, gender is a factor that influences a child’s height.

Interestingly, boys can continue to grow longer than girls.

However, genetics remains the main factor in determining a person’s height.

5. Physical Activity

Healthy physical activity such as exercise can help the body stimulate the production of bone cells.

These cells will grow into healthy and strong bones.

Some types of sports can also help children grow taller, for example playing basketball .

6. Environmental Conditions

Environmental conditions that can affect a child’s height include the geographical environment, conditions while in the womb, and nutritional intake.

In terms of geographical environment, people who live in highland areas tend to have shorter body postures.

The child’s environment while still in the womb also influences his or her height.

If a child is exposed to harmful substances while in the womb, their physical growth can be stunted.

In addition, good and healthy nutrition will certainly help children get a taller body when they grow up.

This is different from children who have malnutrition, infectious diseases, or other poor health problems.

7. Medical Conditions

Other factors that can affect the height of a 2 year old child are related to health problems.

Health problems that your little one is experiencing can cause his or her growth to be slower.

For example, babies with congenital heart defects may experience slower growth rates than babies without these conditions.

Also health problems that affect nutrient absorption or digestion, such as liver disease.celiac, can also cause your little one’s body growth to become slower.

8. Prematurity

As reported on the Medical News Today page , babies who are born prematurely can grow and gain weight more slowly during their first year than babies who are born full term.

However, many babies born prematurely gain weight quickly and grow rapidly after their first birthday.

After passing through puberty , the child’s height growth will stop.

Therefore, childhood to adolescence is the optimal time for children’s height growth.

Some of the following things canParentsapply to help children grow optimally in height.

  • Increase protein and calcium intake – protein and calcium are very important substances to stimulate bone growth. To meet their protein needs, children can consume eggs, meat, seafood, nuts. While calcium can be obtained from milk, yogurt, cheese, broccoli.
  • Eating a balanced diet – during growth, children should get a balanced diet of vegetables, fruits, protein, grains and milk. Also, limit the consumption of sugar and bad fats.
  • Taking vitamins or growth supplements – growth supplements can also help children grow optimally. Choose the right supplement for your child with the dosage or rules listed.
  • Exercise regularly – physical activities such as sports will be very beneficial for increasing growth hormones, bone quality, strengthening muscles, and training physical fitness.
  • Training posture – bad posture, such as hunching or carrying a bag that is too heavy can affect a child’s growth. Therefore, pay attention to your child’s posture when standing, sitting, or sleeping.
  • Get enough rest – getting enough rest, especially sleep, can help the body produce growth hormones optimally. Make sure your child gets enough sleep according to their needs.
