Fun Games for Kids: Blokus

Check out our review of Blokus, a new board game that can help your kids develop their spacial thinking skills in a fun way. And even adults will love it too!

We recently discovered this fun and educational board game that we know your whole family will love. Introducing … Blokus Board Game!

Blokus for the family

What we like:

1. It’s simple to play. The rules to this game are easy, each player has twenty-one different shaped pieces. The aim is to be the first to get all twenty-one pieces on the board; however, the rule is that each successive piece you play has to be touching only at the corner of a piece you’ve played in previous rounds. So players should aim to ‘block’ the opponent’s path, making them unable to play anymore pieces.

2. It’s fun and educational for your kids. Let’s face it, it’s not easy to find educational games that your kids actually enjoy. But with Blokus, the different shapes help your kids unknowingly exercise their spatial thinking and creativity to plan their moves. The game also improves their strategic thinking skills- all this while your kids have fun!

3. Anyone, and everyone, can play! The game is designed for kids ages 5 and up, but this does not mean that it will not be challenging enough for teens and adults. Age is not a significant factor in this game, trust us, it’s very likely that you will be beaten by your young kids. This make Blokus a great after dinner or weekend family activity.

4. Great value for money. How many times have you given your child a new toy only to see it cast aside after a few weeks? Far too many, if you ask us. Blokus is definitely more affordable than computer games and fancy gadgets but it is just as entertaining. What’s more, the game is never the same twice so it always feels like a fresh, new challenge.

What we dislike:

1. Fixed number of players. Blokus is available in many versions, such as the 2 player, 4 player and even a 3D version. The limitation is that the number of player required is fixed, so someone might be left out as it’s not possible to add a new player.

2. Not very travel friendly. The game is of a standard board game size which makes it not very portable and convenient to bring along while travelling. Also, the many small game pieces make it more difficult to play on the go.

Rating: 4/5 Definitely a great game that the whole family can enjoy!
