Fifth Person Charged with Downtown East Murder

The most recent accused for the Downtown East murder is 16 year old , Louis Tong Qing Yao.

A fifth person has been charged with the recent Downtown East murder.

16 year old Louis Tong Qing Yao is accused of being part of the group that attacked and killed Darren Ng Wei Jie between 5.30 pm and 6pm on October 30th.

Darren, who was reportedly hacked with choppers, passed away in Changi General Hospital five hours after the attack.

Together with the 3 others charged with Darren’s murder, Louis Tong Qing Yao will be in court on November 16th.

Tong also faces at least 3 other charges of acting on behalf of an unlicensed moneylender aka loan shark.

One of the accomplices, 18-year-old Edward Tay Wei Loong, is still in hospital.

The teenager was warded after he hurt his head as he was trying to get away from the police.

He was said to have jumped off a chalet balcony into a shallow swimming pool where he hit his head.

Lawyers Subhas Anandan and Sunil Sudheesan from Khattar Wong Law firm represent Tay in court. Mr. Sudheesan asked the court if the prosecution could assist in allowing Tay’s parents to visit their son.

District Judge Lim Tse Haw said Tay’s parents could make a request to the Investigating Officer handling the case.

Tay’s case will be mentioned again in court on November 24th .

If convicted of murder, the five young men will face the death penalty.
