Feng Shui decorating your house this CNY

4 Feb, 2013

Want to ensure you and your family enjoy an abundance of good fortune and blessings throughout the New Year? Decorating your home with some guidance from Feng Shui tips can help to bring in success, happiness and prosperity - while avoiding a whole load of unnecessary burdens and troubles. Find out more below...

Colours and placement directions

Colours and placement directions

Colours and placement directions are an important aspect to consider when decorating for welcoming good "chi" into the home. Ideally, use white and shiny ornaments as decorations in the north-eastern and northern parts of your home while bright ornaments should be placed centrally, as this is supposed to be the best position options.
Decorative items above mirrors and in bedrooms

Decorative items above mirrors and in bedrooms

Placing decorative items above mirrors and in bedrooms should be avoided or at least limited, no matter how attractive they may seem. These positions usually contribute to confusion and persistent tiredness for the family.
Dining room

Dining room

As the dining room is usually the place where most family members gather to enjoy a meal and each other’s company, using white-gold dinnerware accompanied with red, white and golden decorative items are encouraged. Placing tangerines on the table brings significant positive vibes. The bright colour combinations help to usher in good fortune and happiness.
Candles

Candles

Candles are becoming a popular addition to decorating, perhaps because it is known for it’s belief in being able to attract positive energy and wonderful people into your life. Candles, in shades of blue invite peace and balance into the home, while yellow attracts dynamic positive change for the new year and red brings in the passion and power which helps bring all positive elements together.
Plants

Plants

Placing a couple of kumquat-potted plants in your home is also encouraged as this is said to be able to enhance the flow of good luck into your home. The pronunciation, rhymes with the Chinese word for gold and good luck, so if you want a lot of these two elements, then make sure you have your quota of kumquat plants. Another popular choice is the Peony, which is favoured as the flower of richness and good luck.
Red lanterns

Red lanterns

Celebrations are really not complete without the presence of red lanterns, and you will definitely be able to find them in innovative and attractive design to suit your overall Chinese new year decoration theme.
Crystal items

Crystal items

Placing a few decorative crystal items such as carnelian, jasper or even amethyst in certain attractive shapes, near the east corner of your home can also help to usher in good feng shui.
