Being a mum means there are more crucial and important things that you need to put your finances towards. This, coupled with the lack of time to really spend perfecting one’s make-up, often means that mums go without fancy beauty products.
While high-end brands and names are all well and good, we so often overlook the power of drugstore beauty products. We understand that you may be a tad skeptical with what goes onto your face, which is why we did the dirty work and scoped out our 7 favourite drugstore beauty products!
1. L’Oreal Paris La Palette Nude
We know how much everyone loves a good nude palette, and Urban Decay certainly has mastered the craft. However, if you’re aiming to look as good, at half the price, L’Oreal is probably about to be your new best friend.
With 10 different, basic shades to help you complete your look, you’ll never have to worry about not having a colour to go with. We loved their double-sided brush, bristles for application and a sponge for blending or smudging!
Tips for use: Try using more than one shade at a time. This creates depth and helps your eyes pop more than it would with a single shade.

Price: SGD$25.90 (S$29.90 for in-store purchase)
2. Revlon PhotoReady Concealer
This one is definitely a crowd favourite, with its maximum coverage and a lightweight feel, it is perfect for those pesky blemishes and dark circles we know all too well. Forget the flashy names and big price tags, this one is a steal you’re sure to love!
Our top beauty secret would be to go one shade lighter to counter the dark under your eyes.
Tips for use: Aside from dabbing over blemishes, use the concealer stick and draw a triangle beneath your eyes. Blend to even out. This prevents you from having awkward patches of make-up.

3. ZA Killer Volume Mascara
Everybody wants big, bold eyelashes – the kind that could knock cities down with just one blink. While you could opt for falsies, they can be awfully troublesome. If you’re on the prowl for something that will give you the same va-va-voom without all the glue and the hassle, this is the mascara for you!
Tips for use: We say apply one coat, let dry for 30 seconds and then layer on that second coat for big, voluminous eyelashes!

Price: SGD$18.50
4. L’Oreal Paris 24Hr Gel Liner
Eyeliner pencils can be a hassle, you need to sharpen them, they can break, and not to mention the wastage that comes into play when you’re down to the last bit of the pencil and you can’t get it to sharpen anymore. Of course, there are liquid liners or crayons that twist to ‘sharpen’. The problem with them is that you never really know when you’re going to run dry or out of crayon.
L’Oreal Paris’ 24Hr Gel Liner comes in a compact, easy-to-carry pot. It goes on like a dream and lasts you the entire day, sweat and all, with minimal touch-ups!
Tips for use: Use the brush to catch a small amount of gel. Hold one eyelid down gently and draw as you would with an eyeliner pencil. The best thing about it is you can control the amount of product that goes onto your eye.

5. BEAUTYMAKER Matte Cushion
Matte cushions are a great alternative to your regular foundation. Why? Firstly, they come from Korea and we all know how good Korean girls look. Their flawless, poreless, dewy skin is something we’ve all secretly dreamed of having!
Secondly, matte cushions are great for minimising and concealing pores, without clogging them up and increasing the risk of a breakout. We like BEAUTYMAKER as their formula removes any excess oil, promising a fresher looking face.
Tips for use: Press down gently with the cushion provided. Dab lightly over your face, paying extra attention to uneven skin tones.

6. L’Oreal Paris Tint Caresse Lip Tint
Lip tints are great for when you want a little pop of colour without risking that pop extending to your chin or cheek, for example. With a grabby toddler in hand, it’s impossible to say where those chubby little fingers might reach. And nobody wants lipstick on your cheek or baby.
Lip tints do exactly what their name suggests, it adds a light tint of colour where we otherwise might look a little pale. They even provide the opportunity to try out slightly more adventurous colours, like orange!
Tips for use: Pick your favourite colour and fill in like you would with a lipstick. Stick it in your purse for a touch-up, later on, since it’s so light you might want to have it on hand.

7. Heavy Rotation Powder Eyebrow & Nose Shadow
We’re sure you’ve heard all about contouring and highlighting but honestly who has the time? Between waking, bathing, feeding, changing, and changing your baby again – there is little time left to put on a full face of make-up.
Heavy Rotations Powder Eyebrow & Nose Shadow is something of a starter pack for the mum who has always wanted to give contouring a shot. With three simple shades, it’s a lot easier to figure out what you’re doing as compared to an entire palette.
Tips for use: Follow the natural arches and dips of your face. Contouring is about enhancing and bringing out the features that already exist but you feel lack a little ‘oomph’. Remember, lighter shades to highlight and darker shades to create shadows.
