Classic Disney Elements Make an Appearance in New Musical Disenchanted

If you're a Disney fan, you'll love reminiscing these nods to classic Disney themes in the sequel.

Did you grow up in the generation of Disney Princesses? Does your child adore Disney too? Then, you’ll surely love looking for easter eggs together in their latest fantasy movie, Disenchanted, streaming November 18 on Disney+.

We waited a long time for this.

If you’re one of the hopeless romantics who loved the movie Enchanted, then it’s probably no news to you that Disney is releasing an all-new musical comedy and the sequel to the movie that captivated everyone’s hearts 15 years ago.

Yes, you heard it right. It’s been 15 years. But how come I still know the lyrics to all of the songs by heart?

You probably were at a different point in your life when you watched the movie in 2007. I was, too. I’ve gone from being a star-eyed, hopeless romantic to an exhausted, and disillusioned parent. And if you’re like me, we are in dire need of magic in our lives right now, aren’t we?

But the good news is, now that you’re already a parent, you get to share the magical moment with your child when you watch its most-awaited sequel, Disenchanted when it starts streaming on Disney+.

Disenchanted

Enchanted revolves around the heartwarming story of Giselle (portrayed by Amy Adams), a lovable maiden from the fairy tale world of Andalasia who finally found her Prince Charming, in the person of Robert (Patrick Dempsey), a cynical lawyer from New York City.

The plot continues in Disenchanted, where after more than 10 years, Giselle has grown disillusioned with life in the city, so they move their growing family to the sleepy suburban community of Monroeville in search of a more fairy-tale life.

Unfortunately, it isn’t the quick fix she had hoped for. So she sought the help of magic to help make her wish come true and accidentally transforms the entire town into a real-life fairy tale and placing her family’s future happiness in jeopardy.

We’ll leave the rest of what happens to your imagination for now, but what we can tell you is that the sequel has definitely doubled down on the action, adventure and even the singing – the perfect formula for a timeless Disney movie.

(L-R): Amy Adams as Giselle, Sofia (played by Mila & Lara Jackson), Gabriella Baldacchino as Morgan Philip, and Patrick Dempsey as Robert Philip in Disney’s live-action DISENCHANTED, exclusively on Disney+.

Easter Eggs in Disenchanted

If your kids are like mine, they love watching YouTube videos of hidden easter eggs in their favourite movies. In slang definition, easter eggs are what keen fans refer to as hidden messages and references alluding to another movie or story. And kids love it because it’s like a scavenger hunt of some sort to them.

In Disenchanted, you’ll be thrilled to know that there are several Easter eggs in the movie that nods to some important elements in classic Disney movies. According to Disenchanted choreographer and producer Adam Shankman, it’s an amazing thing that Disney allowed these elements to be included in the movie.

“It’s one of my favorite things about the movie and about participating in it because, to my knowledge, it’s the first time Disney ever winked at itself. Like, I don’t think Disney ever allowed winking at itself. And so, this was such an incredible opportunity,” he shared.

Eager to find out which elements made it to Disenchanted? Allow us to give you some:

  • The evil stepmother

For starters, if you’ve seen the first movie and the trailer, you’ll know that Giselle is already a stepmother – a recurring theme in some of Disney’s well-loved animated films, including Enchanted. And according to Adam, that’s actually the jumping-off point of the new movie.

“I was like, ‘That’s low-hanging fruit.’ This is perfect in terms of a continuation of that because she has this, you know, now-developed daughter who probably doesn’t believe in magic anymore. And then I was like, ‘Let’s go from there,’ and it was just sort of a thrill ride from there,” he said.

Classic Disney Elements Make an Appearance in New Musical Disenchanted (L-R): Amy Adams as Giselle and Maya Rudolph as Malvina Monroe in Disney’s live-action DISENCHANTED, exclusively on Disney+.

  • The magic mirror

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the Disney classic that started it all, would not be complete without this important element. And in the trailer, you’ll see that they’re bringing the magic mirror back, and it’s an exact replica of the first one! So nostalgic.

  • Pip transforms into a cat

Talking animals and transformations is a total nod to Cinderella. But even more so when Pip, the comical chipmunk from the first movie transforms into a cat that very much looks like Lucifer, the evil stepmother’s debonair pet cat in the 1950 Disney animated movie.

There are other fun Easter eggs in the movie, but we’ll leave that for you and the whole family to find. Let us know in the comments section if you see any more!

Disenchanted movie

(L-R): James Marsden as Prince Edward and Idina Menzel as Nancy Tremaine in Disney’s live-action DISENCHANTED, exclusively on Disney+.

Disenchanted stars Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, Maya Rudolph, Yvette Nicole Brown, Jayma Mays, Gabriella Baldacchino, with Idina Menzel and James Marsden. The movie features songs with music by 8-time Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken.

Disney’s Disenchanted begins streaming on November 18, 2022, only on Disney+.
