67-Year-Old Woman Becomes China's Oldest New Mother After Giving Birth To Baby Girl

67-year-old retired nurse Tian becomes China's oldest new mother after giving birth to a baby girl. Find out more about her delivery here!

A 67-year-old woman has become China’s oldest new mother after giving birth to a baby girl.

According to local news, the former nurse who goes by the surname Tian, and her 68-year-old husband Huang have decided to call their little one “Tianci” which directly translates to “given by god” as she was not planned and was “sent by heaven”.

While Tian was ecstatic over the birth of her daughter, she was quoted by a local newspaper saying that the birth was stressful. “It was painful, too painful. I couldn’t even keep my eyes open,” she added.

Tian also had to opt for a C-section because she had high blood pressure when she was 36 weeks pregnant. Apart from that, her baby was also taken to intensive care to be monitored as she weighed 2.6kg.

But, despite the setbacks, Huang said he and his wife will “strive to live to 110 years old,” and are in a “good state of health.”

Unfortunately for the couple, after the news broke out, many Chinese netizens criticised their decision to have another child and called it a “selfish act”.

The couple’s adult children also were against the idea of having another sibling and were shocked when they found out their mother was expecting.

The world record for the oldest new mother still belongs to 74-year-old Indian woman Erramatti Mangayamma who gave birth to twin girls last month with the help of in vitro fertilisation.
