Best places to celebrate Oktoberfest 2014 in Singapore

26 Sep, 2014

Oktoberfest is a huge fun fair that is celebrated in Bavaria, Germany. It starts around the third week of September and continues until the first Sunday of October.

This mega festival began in 1810 to celebrate a royal wedding in Germany — when Crown Prince Ludwig, later to become King Ludwig I, was married to Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen on 12 October 1810.

The people of Munich were invited to attend the festivities, where the main event was a horse race.

Since then — although the horse races have been discontinued — Oktoberfest has evolved to include beer-drinking competitions, fun fairs and an all-round carnival atmosphere all over Bavaria.

Today, Oktoberfest is one of the biggest festivals in the world. It draws tourists of all ages from all over the world.

Oktoberfest is also celebrated in many countries besides Germany, including here in Singapore. Many German restaurants here celebrate this tradition with parties and promotions, usually starting the last week of September.

Keep clicking to find out where you can go to get a taste of what Oktoberfest has to offer.
