The best places to get mooncakes in Singapore

18 Aug, 2014

The Mid-Autumn Festival is around the corner, and we all look forward to catching up with friends and family — and sharing a treat or two, of course!

These 'treats' which most Singaporeans deem the best part about the Festival are the utterly delicious mooncakes, of course!

Here in Singapore, every year's Mid-Autumn Festival is celebrated with these delectably delightful little treats we just can’t resist.

Getting into the rather yummy finer details about mooncakes, did you know that there are mainly two types of mooncakes available?

The traditional mooncake — complete with its baked glossy golden 'armour' — hides a creamy interior of white lotus seed paste and, most frequently, salted egg yolk.

For those of you who feel traditional mooncakes are too, well, traditional, there are also those dewy, snow skinned mooncakes that come in the fanciest flavours you can think of!

So where can one get these yummy treats? Well, to make your 'hunting' much easier, we've listed the best places for mooncakes this year — just click 'Next' to start reading it!

Golden Peony

Golden Peony

Located in Conrad Centennial, Golden Peony is known for serving their delicious traditional and snow skin mooncakes with a beautiful and definitely Insta-worthy "treasure-chest". Gift (or enjoy for yourself) these mooncakes that come in unique flavours such as rum and raisin, Champagne and strawberry and of course, their signature mini snow skin selection such the green tea with white chocolate and cranberry cheese.

Location: Conrad Centennial Singapore, 2 Temasek Boulevard, Singapore 038982

Goodwood Park Hotel

Goodwood Park Hotel

But, where do you find the best durian mooncakes? Goodwood Park Hotel has been known for their durian...everything. From swiss rolls to cakes. Their durian mooncakes are the all-time favourite of many Singaporeans. And this year, they'll be using Mao Shan Wang as the main ingredient, instead of the usual D24. Another hot favourite that you should try is the Yuzu Lychee snow skin mooncake.

Location: 22 Scotts Road, Singapore 228221

Grand Hyatt Singapore

Grand Hyatt Singapore

Grand Hyatt Singapore isn't a stranger in the mooncake scene. Similar to the previous years, Grand Hyatt unveils a wide collection of mooncake flavours that are both traditional and unique, such as the strawberry with lime tequila truffle and caramel macchiato truffle. Also, they are known for their traditional packaging that they sometimes run out of, so be quick!

Location: 10 Scotts Road Singapore 228211

InterContinental Singapore

InterContinental Singapore

Another one that easily makes it to this list is InterContinental Singapore. Coming in all sorts of unique flavours that include sea salt caramel, buttery avocado paste and more, these mooncakes are definitely worth queueing for. Also, be sure to not miss out on their all-time favourite flavours, the yuzu and sakura.

Location: 80 Middle Road, Singapore 188966

Raffles Hotel Singapore

Raffles Hotel Singapore

Raffles Hotel has seen queues after queues for its traditional and snow skin mooncakes that usually come with a twist of both modern and traditional flavours such as the double yolk with macadamia nuts and white lotus paste, Champagne truffle and ganache and so much more!

Szechuan Court

Szechuan Court

Located in Fairmont Hotel, Szechuan Court serves beautifully designed mooncakes that we must add, come in very pretty colours as well! Their designs are so unique, you might have trouble even eating them! Their mooncakes are also presented in a box that design is inspired by the traditional Cheong Sam. Do try their well-known flavours such as yuzu chocolate crunchy pearl, Cranberry Snow, Champagne truffle and chocolate ganache. Decidophobia and more.

Location: Fairmont Singapore, 80 Bras Basah Road, Singapore 189560

Yan Ting

Yan Ting

Yan Ting is located in St. Regis Singapore and their snow skin mooncakes come in beautiful designs and colours that taking a photo before savouring them is a must! They also feature local flavours with a twist, such as the citrusy pomegranate truffle with red bean chendol paste, purple sweet potato with water chestnut and salted yam paste and more. Also, try the very unique and probably not available anywhere else: Portuguese custard paste mooncake!
