The very sultry and gorgeous Angelina Jolie has announced that she will be doing fewer films, as she get older. Also in with the retirement plan is her partner of six years, Brad Pitt, with whom she has 6 kids – 3 adopted and 3 biological.
In an interview with Financial Times, the award-wining thespian and mother revealed, ‘as Brad and I get older we’re going to do fewer films.’
She continued to say that she wishes to spend more time with the family. Having several film projects in a year meant that her time is divided between work and the kids.
Angelina Jolie wants to quit acting for kids
She continued to say, ‘I’ve been working for a long time, he’s been working for a long time, we’ve had a nice run and don’t want to be doing this our whole lives. There are a lot of other things to do.’
Jolie began her commitment to acting at the age of 16. She was noticed in the industry when she won a Golden Globe award (1997) and Screen Actors’ guild award (1998). She was notable for her roles in George Wallace and Gia respectively. It was only in 2001, with the international success of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, that she became a worldwide household name.
However, acting is not her only great achievement. The UN goodwill ambassador has long been lauded for her humanitarian efforts and famed adoption of 3 children – Cambodian Maddox, Ethiopian Zahara and Vietnamese Pax.
Other than those three cherubs, the actress manages to find time to raise three of her own biological children – Shiloh and twins, Knox and Vivienne. When she is not busy on a film set, the hands-on mum is often pictured with at least two of her children, out and about.
Commenting further on her decision to slowly retire she said, ‘I don’t love (acting) as much (as I did). I love being a mom.’ She added that she doesn’t plan to actually quit showbiz anytime soon.
So we can all breathe a sigh of relief and look forward to watching Jolie on the big screen in the future.
On the topic of her children, Jolie has her own style of raising her kids. This, despite detractors condemning her for some of her parental decisions.
For instance, critics panned both Pitt and her for indulging their first-born Shiloh and her tomboyish nature. In retort, Jolie stressed that she wants her children to have the freedom to be themselves.
She told Reuters: “children should be allowed to express themselves in whatever way they wish without anybody judging them because it is an important part of their growth.”
Angelina Jolie wants kids to have world view
Jolie, also believe in raising worldly children who are sensitive to other cultures while knowing their own. She said, ‘if you can travel I think it’s the best way to raise kids.’
As such, all six of her children enjoy trotting the globe with their parents. Dad, Pitt, often refer to the family as ‘nomadic’ and ‘a military mobile unit.’
Of course, he is spot on with the description. As their travelling plans often include all six children and their nannies.
Yes, you saw it right – nannies, well 6 of them in fact, with one for each child. And we heard this does not include the personal bodyguards in their posse!
Angelina Jolie might have big plans of retirement. But with more film offers pouring in (or so we hear!) and six young children, we doubt she will be slowing down anytime soon!
Meanwhile, we are wondering how mummies and daddies here in Singapore feel about having big families. Given the financial means, would you be up for it? Share with us your thoughts.
